Breaking news everyone, Nokia N96 forum member DAGr8 has just sent us a screenshot proof that the v12.035 firmware/software upgrade isn’t a rumour, or non-official version. He has installed it in his phone, as you can see below, and also provided the tips to install it. If you’re interested, click here!

A change list would be really nice so we can see which of the many, many bugs this upgrade addresses
Thanks for the post tho!

Hi All,
Just to say that I had all but given up with my N96. It would constantly freeze up and was horrendously slow. Even my screensaver picture would take a wile to switch between portrait and landscape mode. My big gripe, was whilst listening to music on my daily commute, if I received a text and tried to read it, it would take an eternity to display and an equally long time to display the reply screen. Adding new media would result in the phone freezing for up to 20mins. I also had to restart the phone many times, even removing the battery. And that was running the V11 software upgrade.
In desparation i saw news of this unofficial v12 software upgrade. like you I was concerned about bricking my phone by flashing the phone with unofficial software using Phoenix (something I had never done). After 6 hours googling and downloading the necessary software onto my XP machine. I gave it a go. My N96 was on Orange(branded) and a UK product code. It didn’t work at first, but after more googling, I download one more file and tried again. I couldn’t believe it when it worked. The phone displayed the new v12 software. Believe me, it is a different phone on this software. It is finally the phone we should all have had at the start. Everything is a lot faster. My issues above have gone. Photo’s switch between landscape and portrait quickly. There maybe still bugs, but the main issue for me, the speed of operation and the basics have all been addressed. I’m finally please and keeping the phone. Why this software isn’t official yet beats me (are Nokia mad). And the guys who have posted the files are mini heroes.

I got the same problems as JDE 2 had. It would take an year to open any application or just to read a message. But ever since I got this new v12 software it takes just a second and everything is in front of my eyes. This is what I love now coz earlier I was using Nokia 6630 and believe me its the best phone I have ever used. Amazing speed, no hanging nothing, no matter how many or whatever softwares you install. It still worked pretty fine. I wish I could do the same with my N96. But I guess its better left off untouched with software. Atleast its working fast, better than taking an eternity.
