Name: Severity

Creator: Xavier

SummarySeverity another Theme created by Xavier which means straight away you know that its going to be a nice theme for your Nokia N96Severity has a its own unique look which is very eliguent and gives the n96 a classic look. The thing I like most about Severity is the colour of the text which is grey but its not only that it makes the whole display looks like a messy notepad but the look works really well. The icons are the same as the last theme I posted called “DreamScene” but they dont have to be installed if you don’t like them. What I like about Severity is how the display doesn’t look like a phone. The other thing that I really like about the theme is when you highlight a folder in changes the text white and the background of the folder gray .

Overview: It’s sunday so i thought a few people would like a new theme to show off around work or two a few mates but I didn’t think I was going to like Severity as much as I do. Also If you do like this remember was created by Xavier so make sure all the credit go to him. Severity is free and a very nice theme so I would try it out. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Handywi

screenshot0074

Name: Handywi

Description: Wifi Connection Manager

Summary: “no gateway reply” words that I hate, words that I see nearly every time I use the Internet on my phone. Normally I would just refresh the system but I wanted something with a more stable connection for the nokia N96, this is what I came up with. Handywi is exactly what you thing it is, it can find all the near by wifi connections and helps you connect and so far has not shown me any error messagesHandywi has another side to it, when your in a location that you like you can use Handywi to record your location and then you can upload them to your list of Landmarks and then you can view them on your map. I think Handywi is a must have application if you have any problems using wifi.

Overview: I was kind of expecting something a little better from this application it give you a more stable connection but I think that it makes the Internet slower which is really annoying. Handywi is free but its just not what I exactly wanted but I will keep it on my phone just for the times that the Internet is acting up. If you are going to use Handywi then note that the connection it uses is stored in the uncategorized section when connecting to wifi. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – WorldMate

Name: WorldMate

Description:  Travel Itinerary

Summary: If you are traveling, whether it is to work or different or even across the border there’s some information that’s handy to have. This is where WorldMate comes in, WorldMate is Collection of excellent applications all in one place that updates automatically giving you the latest times, weather forecast, directions, flight information and the latest currency rates. All this seems only useful if you are traveling across countries, but my favourite part of this application mite change that. Weather forecasts are great but the only problem is that they can manly be found on newspapers, radio and TV which makes them a bit out of the way, WorldMate brings this straight to your Nokia N96 but instead of showing you the forecast it tells it to you. WorldMate can make these reports twice a day at your chosen time and your chosen days so you could wake up to the nice lady telling you the weather without doing anything.

Overview: Believe it or not this application is free but has limited abilities compared to the gold version, but you would have to be Serious about your business travel to get that because it costs $30 a year. Personally I only have the application for the weather forecast but for anyone that travels a lot this could be your next best friend. Another thing That I noticed is the speed of update which is very smooth and had a very stable connection. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – RaceChrono

screenshot0065Name: RaceChrono

Description: Gps Track Location Log

Summary: First lets clear up what it is, RaceChrono is an application that uses your gps to find and track your location on race tracks. Just to be clear this is app is only for people who use local race tracks on these open days or even if your big into go-karts. RaceChrono has about 180 race tracks all around the world and you can even add a new one if you local is on the server. The many point of RaceChrono is to record you lap times and overall performance and will help you find the best possible time and how much Gforse is in each turn. RaceChrono isn’t only limited to cars and race tracks you can also use it for motorboat racing. With all the information you gather you should be able to work out the fastest way.

Overview: I don’t know what it is about this application that makes it so disireable (RaceChrono has been download 100,000 times) some places are saying its because its free but I’m not sure about that I think it has to do with the increase of open track days. As I said this application is free but if you think what it enables you to do and how much it would cost to do this in other ways, so if you use this application enough then you should probably donate a few quid. Nokia N96 App Review – FontRouterMan

Name: FontRouterMan

Description: Font Adjusting Tool

Summary: Changing the font on your Nokia N96 is quite a task but an even bigger task is finding a font that actually looks good on your N96. FontRouterMan changes that by letting you adjust Length, Size, Font Style, Letter Spacing, Word Spacing, Bitmap Type and min and max Size. Also FontRouterMan will let you chose a font and ask where to find it so this means you can change the font even if you phone is not hacked because it can read fonts from anywhereFontRouterMan will let you adjust any font so that its very usable and is another way to personalise your phone just to how you like it.

Overview: I know the font I’m using isn’t looking that clear at the moment let me explain why, Every time you want to change some thing about your font then you have to restart your phone before it takes effect. So this will take a while to do my advise is not to turn any setting down and only increase them about 3-5 points to start with and use bold. After that you will probably what to change it some more and I would say to do that over the course of the day because I guess that the phone won’t like to be restarted every 5 minutes. There is two Applications that you have to install but they are both in the link at the bottom as well as some fonts.FontRouterMan is in the RC (release candidate) stage which means that it’s basically ready for distribution and its free.

Please note that one of the applications needs to be signed!

Nokia N96 App Review – Best Profiles

screenshot0058

Name: Best Profiles

Description: Profile Manager

Summary: I haven’t been impressed with too many applications these days normally because they only have one use. Its going to be a mouth full to tell you what Best Profiles can do for your Nokia N96 but ill give it a go. To start with lets go through the basics, Best Profiles will let you chose to change your profile everyday or just the selected days, you can also set up key words and whenever an event happens in your calender that uses that key word it will change to a selected profile. Best Profiles will also use your GSM location to chose a profile (which so far I have only been able to define a country but you mite be able to work or home locations) and of course it can change your profile when you charge your phone. With all this going on it could well happen that your profiles overlap so Best Profiles has a priority setting for each profile change it does. Now lets get onto the good stuff, first for every different profile you can have different wallpapers, Themes and sound notifications. Also upon activation of a profile you can set it to run multiple applications, different backlight settings and even bluetooth activity. All this needs a bit of planning what if you just want a quick change well Best Profiles has the ability to let you activate any profile at a certain time, after a certain time, for a certain time and even lock for a certain time if your not sure what other profile mite activate.

Overview: On its own Best Profiles doesn’t seem that much but if you think of the possibilities for example my previous post was power mp3 that could start playing music as soon as it opened so if you set that as the application your profile runs it could be an alarm clock that doesn’t stop. Just think what it could do I’m 100% sure that someone will think of an even better use of this application and I would love to hear about it when you do. Unfortunately I have some bad news Best Profiles isn’t free its only £6/$10 but I know that it will put most people off which is a shame because it is a good application and one day there will be a time this application will help you.

Nokia N96 App Review – Power Mp3

screenshot0045

Name: power mp3

Description: Mp3 Player

Summary: I posted a previous version of this application a while back but then it didn’t have an equalizer now however it does so it makes for a perfect Mp3 player for your Nokia N96. If you have use Power Mp3 before you will know its based on the original media player but it has a few things that that’s not included in the original one. The first addition this has is the use of short cuts using the numeral keypad, Power Mp3 also has a mood setting that you can define for each song and rate it as well. Other things that Power Mp3 has is a preamp, bass boost, loudness and stereo widening. Another feature of Power Mp3 is the skins and themes that you can apply that gives Power Mp3 nice interface.

Overall: I know its hard to change media players and even though this mp3 player is better bit quite a distance but I just can see it actually replacing the original one.  What I will tell you is that this is a beta at the moment so you can download it for free but I think when the full version is out it will probably cost a few quid so it is really worth downloading. Nokia N96 Theme Review – Dreamscene

screenshot0040

Name: Dreamscene

Creator: Xavier

Summary: As it it Sunday and everyone’s sitting back enjoying the forumula1 and not creating applications so I thought that this is a nice time to change themesDreamscene is a clean theme for the Nokia N96 created by one of the best Theme creators in the business and this is one of the nicer ones out there. The nicest thing about this theme is the light and how it gets darker at the top and how well the clock looks. You can tell straight away that this is a professional theme by the icons which suit the phone quite well but there is other versions in the download that don’t have the icons. What I will say is that this theme isn’t exactly for practicality more for style, all the same its a great theme that you should check out

Overview: There’s one or two things some people mite find annoying is how dark it is, although I thing it adds to the style of the theme. Another thing that mite put people off is the icons because they are quite nice just not as eloquent or as relevant as the default icons. As all our themes here this is free and I would also like to the the people at Xavier for doing such a wonderful job and if you don’t like this one I’m sure Xavier have some theme that you’ll like. Nokia N96 Game Review – Four In A Line

May 23, 2009 by
Filed under Applications, Games, Review, S60

Name: Four In A Line

Description: Free strategy game

Summary: N-gage is know as the pinnacle of gaming for mobiles pushing graphics to the limit but many of these games don’t have any type of multi-player that you can use with your friends sitting next to you. Four In A Line is exactly the same as connect four but you can play against the computer or your friend. This game has a few things you wouldn’t expect to find on a free game, like the ability to play over sms or bluetooth against friends and also the ability of the AI should be noted as it can sometimes be unbeatable.

Overview: When I say “free strategy game” there is a catch and that is that it’s an ad based application so you have to view a few advertisements but I wouldn’t say that’s a problem it just mite put a few people off  but its a quality game and if you put all the registration and that stuff aside you end up with a really neat game.

Nokia N96 N-gage Review – Spore

May 22, 2009 by
Filed under Games, N-Gage, NSeries, Review

screenshot0035Name: Spore

Genre: Strategy/Adventure

SummarySpore has been out for the PC for about a year and it has been doing well mainly because of massive amount of game-play and innovative story. Spore has now been released for the Nokia N96 but with the lack of graphics and processing power, is it able to be a good game? The game itself is quite addictive and with ability to change every part of your creature. The point of the game is to eat little creatures so that yours can develop and the more you develop the more you can eat and defend yourself. The graphics works nicely and the game in whole runs smoothly the only thing that needs fixing is the navigation because it only uses up, down, left and right and a lot of the time you want to go in a diagonal direction.

Overview: I was a bit surprised with this game because I played the version for the Iphone which was about 20 bigger in size and that got very boring. However Spore for n-gage is better because its more fast paced and seems harder but I’m sure there’s more levels in the Iphone version. The other thing this game has is a multi-player so you can show off your creature to other n-gage players. In the end of the day I don’t think ill be buying this game just because I’ve played Iphone version. Read more
