Yahoo,as predicted Nokia finally releases a new fimware not the predicted 20.045 but firmware version 20.050 which is avaible OTA, I only have checked a few product codes but it seem that as long as you have one of the “” products codes you can download it from NSU. With that in mind lests find out what new in this firmware and will it improve your phone or have we been waiting for nothing, we’ll lets see whats been updated.

  • Empty bookmark folders removed from Browser bookmarks (i.e. the “Download…” folders)
  • Link to Ovi.mobi is included in Browser bookmarks

All of these add up to quite alot but theres a few things left untouched but they will probably come around with the next firmware. I was also sad to see that they didnt try to improve the sound quality but maybe the mucic play will do that.

Sounds like a load of eye candy to me.

All I want to know is, have they done anything to improve the speed and stability of the phone? Have dandy features isn’t much good when the phone decides to reboot itself mid-call several times a day or keep you waiting 20-30 seconds every time you go to access your contacts….

You’ll forgive me if I don’t get too excited by the addition of Nokia email support. It seems Nokia intend to charge for that service, which goes against my pledge of NEVER allowing Nokia another single red cent out of me.

BTW, Nokia posted a 96% drop in profits last quarter. I hope the number 96 well and truly sticks in their throat.

there is no version 20 of the firmware. version 12 is the current one. maybe it is because you are in the states. i have the most up to date firmware as i installed it from Nokia last night. no difference in the display or any thing else for that matter. are you winding us up??

Anybody know if and when the upgrade will be available on Vodafone in the uk?

  11. Patrick Campbell on Thu, 14th May 2009 3:25 pm

Probably never My vodafone product code only lets me use firmware 11.043. so I changed it to the general uk/ireland one.

  12. Sam on Fri, 15th May 2009 5:58 am

Will changing my product code cause any problems with my phone?

  13. Matt on Fri, 15th May 2009 11:55 pm

Well, I updated my N96 a week ago now and it’s transformed the phone. It’s hugely better than it has been since launch. TBH, I’ve hated the phone almost since the day I got it last September (and kept swapping back to my previous N95 8Gb) due to how laggy it was and how lousy the battery life has been. The 20.050 firmware has made the whole thing much snappier and much more enjoyable to use. I’ve never had random rebooting issues but it’s been totally solid for the 7 days. Battery life seems to have improved as well by maybe as much as 50%. Almost a shame I’ll be getting an N97 the soon as I can lay my hands on one.

Sam, mine was originally a Vodafone crippled version but I changed the product code and re-flashed it almost the soon as there was some support and new product codes available. Been absolutely fine since.

Jesus. One question idiots. A majority of N96 users in the UK are not receiving the update. Instead of telling us how great the update is, please explain how we change the model code so as we can all enjoy it.

  16. Patrick Campbell on Tue, 19th May 2009 3:17 pm

Simon you should check the forum for a tutorial on how to change your product code

  17. Freakstone on Fri, 22nd May 2009 5:59 pm

Nice, way to make friends, Simon … calling everyone idiots.

    Try google, it’s not difficult.

    Look for “debranding nokia n96″

Find and apply an N96 Euro product code that’s non-operator specific then update. This new firmware is fast, stable (so far) and also makes the slide make a whoosh sound effect, w00!

    Disclaimer: Debranding voids your warranty.

  18. Freakstone on Fri, 22nd May 2009 6:01 pm

PS: Patrick, thanks for the firmware changelog.

  19. Patrick Campbell on Sat, 23rd May 2009 5:07 pm

    Thanks for the support Freakstone

  27. Ray on Wed, 10th Jun 2009 6:04 pm

    I’m with o2 who are very slow sorting out this update. With the product code i got with it i could only update to vers 12. I’ve followed instructions off here;

    http://forum.o2.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=113955&sid=f05ad96f2a094282a886aa38ea264697

and have updated to version 20. Messaging is STILL crap though. Texting is surely the most important and most used function these days yet I find texting on the n96 hugely frustrating. It’s far too slow once you’ve selected reply for writing to commence and also the sms sending bit stays on the screen far too long. Plus you have no option to have your texts listed with time and date etc. It’s crap. This day and age it should be so much better. SORT IT NOKIA!!!

I still can’t update my N96 to V20 :( It still says V12 is the latest. Anyone else is having the same problem? Mine is a unbranded, generic phone.

When will Nokia release V20 for all product Codes? :(
    (At least for unbranded phones)

  29. Zeeshan on Mon, 13th Jul 2009 6:46 pm

I also have the Nokia N96 with NAM code 0570666, but later I changed it to other NAM code on which the latest version is available, my mobile version is now 20.050 from the last one month or so, working perfectly and the major change I have seen is the battery time has enhanced.

  30. Zeeshan on Mon, 13th Jul 2009 6:48 pm

now I just got the version 30.033 for N96, just started to install hope it will goes well too.

  31. Rozi Khan on Thu, 14th Jan 2010 2:23 am

I installed the new updated firmware V30.033 on my Nokia N96 which has caused my camera not working anymore. Whenever I press on camera button or open it from the menu it gives the message “Camera Feature not Supported”. If anyone has any idea of how to sort out this problem then let it be posted in the forum. My phone functioned perfectly well in the old firmware.
