At the moment the only way to update is ota (over the air) and it will be available to only a few product codes but will shortly be available via nokia software updater. The update doesn’t have a change-log yet so this won’t be the last post about it but for now ill tell you what I know. So far it has been confirmed to have a performance increase and some bug fixes so it should bring the nokia N96 to life once again. If you are updating ota then the update will only be 6MB but if you remember the update to v20.050 was only 3MB so this could be quite a substantial update but as I haven’t be able to update yet I can’t confirm whats new. If we go by past phones normally when they reach the v30 firmware then they start to become great phones so i will be great to how this update pans out.

If you have updated and you have noticed anything please let us know.

    Changes experienced by me…

    1. Navi Wheel option is out…U can control breathing now by going to Settings>General>Personalization>Standby Mode>Status Light (On/Off)
    2. Live TV Application
    3. Factory Settings option on General Settings
    4. V-Shaped Menu is Fast
    5. Autorotation bugs are fixed
    6. Gallery bug is still there…dunno when nokia will fix this
    7. More Ram on boot. So bootup time increased

    TV app has something new… Haven’t yet noticed anything else..

    Updated to 30.033, haven’t seen much difference really, the gallery did take quite a while when first opening to load all of the pictures, it hasn’t made the phone any worse so worth upgrading.

    Tip – do the upgrade via a wireless router, its so much quicker.

    i perfectly agree with Comment #1 (aniket vasishth)
    every thing else he noticed is perfectly like that but there is still some differences.

    #8. NGAGE is automatically installed with AOA(age of empires) demo, which i think is just an extra load on phone memory.

    #9. I just upgraded from 96-3 which i was unable to do it on my own due to service provider n i’m even able to use the secondary camera(VGA front) phone is actually working better

    rest are all the same as listed under

    There is still a bug in the Gallery. I dunno when this Nokia will realize that???
    Gallery opens almost every image in the mobile including themepackage.mgm files…

    Where are you Axel Meyer? Where are bug finders of Nokia???

    i updated my n96 and noticed straight away the speaker sound quality was much better and louder

  8. Markster on Mon, 6th Jul 2009 9:41 pm

    The hard reset function (*#7370) did not work on the v20 firmware, but this has been modified on v30. Be warned, however that the hard reset is now even harder than on v10 to v12, and will now clear not just your phone memory BUT ALSO YOUR 16GB HARD DRIVE!

    From http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/product-support/nokia-n96/tips-and-tricks

    New features include:

    * Application stability improvements
    * Image quality improvements
    * Uninterrupted viewing/recording of videos
    * Improved Bluetooth interoperability
    * Compatibility with Nokia Email service

  10. bolpen on Fri, 10th Jul 2009 10:42 pm

    I agree with derjizm, the speaker is louder and I noticed a slight improvement in the phone’s speed.

    i’ve noticed that the terrible hiss on the videos i’ve recorded has gone ! That was something that really needed fixing. I was surprised that nokia even released the phone when it was so bad.

  12. erwin_indo on Mon, 13th Jul 2009 4:38 pm

    i agree with all comment above, but i’ve trouble with Nokia Email. the shortcut is dis appear on standby mode and i try to reinstal it, then error, so i cant using Nokia Email again.

    Still struggling with this phone after 6 months. It seems a lot of work to get anything done. So thought i would try yo update to see if that helps. The latest update I am eligible for is 12.043 – why so far behind?

  14. cyberfella on Thu, 16th Jul 2009 3:36 pm

    the N96 forums are full of info on changing the product code so that the nokia software updater or over-the-air upgrade will then work for handsets currently held back to 12.043, allowing impatient and frustrated owners the opportunity to upgrade to a later firmware intended for phones with a different model number.

    Personally, I can’t imagine its a good idea to change the product code to that of a different model N96, at least not without knowing what the product code means. Is each number just a meaningless, inconsequential field pertaining to language, country and network provider or what? or am i likely to brick my very expensive, albeit sluggish handset just because i’m impatient and frustrated?

    I updated my Nokia N96 firmware to Firmware Version v30.033 a few days ago, and there after my phone just goes of at random and reboots itself. How can I go about getting it fixed.Though I also noticed some of the changes expressed by several other people here but the fact that it does reboots itself is not making me enjoy the update. I hope to get responses about what I can do to get that over or around that. Thanks a bunch

  16. Patrick Campbell on Tue, 21st Jul 2009 2:03 am

    I have found some applications that when ever they run they restart the phone. so triistar you should remove any used applications

    I just update my 11.0something fw (the fw that it came w/when I bought my n96) to 30.033. So far, I think it’s a nice update, the only complaint for this update is my n96 auto rotate screen is not working, I checked the setting if it’s ON but it’s still not working. Anyone encountered this problem?

    Same problem as above with the camera following this update. I receive a ‘feature not supported’ error, whereupon the phone becomes virtually unusable until reboot. Any suggestions?

    Just imagine: a certan nigger gave Cialis to his sheep, then it stole a hammer and tried to screw him. Then Larry King came and solved the tiff with a tablet of Lexapro. Goddamnit! Think we all have to buy generic Lexapro online from Canada and be apart of these stupid situations. http://riie.us/?a=8552 qqlxndx

  38. Johnny on Thu, 3rd Dec 2009 10:32 am

    Jean, since the update to V30.033 my N96 phone works great generally.
    After the update you should completely reset your phone (anything gets deleted and settings return to their default values).
    This one is important: Don’t restore phone settings from a backup that was made from an earlier firmware version! If this happend, reset your phone completely, change the settings manually and just restore phone book entries, short messages and media files from earlier backups.

    Hope this helps!

  40. Rozi Khan on Wed, 6th Jan 2010 1:22 pm

    The new firmware (V30.033) for Nokia N96 has caused my camera not working anymore, as when I press the camera button it says camera feature not supported. I updated my phone the other day and and this new update has made my camera useless. When I press the camera button it gives the message “camera feature not supported” and the phone hangs up.

  41. Marie on Sun, 24th Jan 2010 4:47 am

    After i updated my camera says not supported, what the hell happened, its so stupid!!! Please I need help…

  42. zee on Wed, 3rd Feb 2010 8:02 am
