N-gage are giving away one free N-gage activation code for anyone living in the UK, this code will turn any trial game in to a full version. Unfortunately for any living out side the uk there is no plan to provide this service to other countries but you can always hope. What I wasn’t expecting is that you have to wait up to 3days to receive your code but its all worth it for a free game. The next thing is to chose what game you are going to get so I put a list of what I think the top 5 N-gage games are for the nokia N96 click on the links below to read my review. (some games mite be better but I don’t think they work well on the nokia N96). Personally I think I will get Age of Empires 3 because I already have worms world party and I think that It probably has the longest playtime.

At the moment the only way to update is ota (over the air) and it will be available to only a few product codes but will shortly be available via nokia software updater. The update doesn’t have a change-log yet so this won’t be the last post about it but for now ill tell you what I know. So far it has been confirmed to have a performance increase and some bug fixes so it should bring the nokia N96 to life once again. If you are updating ota then the update will only be 6MB but if you remember the update to v20.050 was only 3MB so this could be quite a substantial update but as I haven’t be able to update yet I can’t confirm whats new. If we go by past phones normally when they reach the v30 firmware then they start to become great phones so i will be great to how this update pans out.

Description: Font Adjusting Tool

Summary: Changing the font on your Nokia N96 is quite a task but an even bigger task is finding a font that actually looks good on your N96. FontRouterMan changes that by letting you adjust Length, Size, Font Style, Letter Spacing, Word Spacing, Bitmap Type and min and max Size. Also FontRouterMan will let you chose a font and ask where to find it so this means you can change the font even if you phone is not hacked because it can read fonts from anywhere. FontRouterMan will let you adjust any font so that its very usable and is another way to personalise your phone just to how you like it.

Overview: I know the font I’m using isn’t looking that clear at the moment let me explain why, Every time you want to change some thing about your font then you have to restart your phone before it takes effect. So this will take a while to do my advise is not to turn any setting down and only increase them about 3-5 points to start with and use bold. After that you will probably what to change it some more and I would say to do that over the course of the day because I guess that the phone won’t like to be restarted every 5 minutes. There is two Applications that you have to install but they are both in the link at the bottom as well as some fonts.FontRouterMan is in the RC (release candidate) stage which means that it’s basically ready for distribution and its free.

Description: Profile Manager

Summary: I haven’t been impressed with too many applications these days normally because they only have one use. Its going to be a mouth full to tell you what Best Profiles can do for your Nokia N96 but ill give it a go. To start with lets go through the basics, Best Profiles will let you chose to change your profile everyday or just the selected days, you can also set up key words and whenever an event happens in your calender that uses that key word it will change to a selected profile. Best Profiles will also use your GSM location to chose a profile (which so far I have only been able to define a country but you mite be able to work or home locations) and of course it can change your profile when you charge your phone. With all this going on it could well happen that your profiles overlap so Best Profiles has a priority setting for each profile change it does. Now lets get onto the good stuff, first for every different profile you can have different wallpapers, Themes and sound notifications. Also upon activation of a profile you can set it to run multiple applications, different backlight settings and even bluetooth activity. All this needs a bit of planning what if you just want a quick change well Best Profiles has the ability to let you activate any profile at a certain time, after a certain time, for a certain time and even lock for a certain time if your not sure what other profile mite activate.

Overview: On its own Best Profiles doesn’t seem that much but if you think of the possibilities for example my previous post was power mp3 that could start playing music as soon as it opened so if you set that as the application your profile runs it could be an alarm clock that doesn’t stop. Just think what it could do I’m 100% sure that someone will think of an even better use of this application and I would love to hear about it when you do. Unfortunately I have some bad news Best Profiles isn’t free its only £6/$10 but I know that it will put most people off which is a shame because it is a good application and one day there will be a time this application will help you.

Well, these are only dreams. For now I selected from Youtube a nice “Nokia N97 Hands-On”. For now you can only buy Nokia N96

I was only expecting the phone to arrive next week, but this morning I received an email saying that they will drop one off when they collect the E71 I photo reviewed here.

So what are my first thoughts? Nothing better than put them in point form:

• It’s huge, occupies most of my hand, when compared to my innocent N95. I like it! – good
• No memory card – I’m fine with 16GB, thank you very much. – good
• Ovi leaflet in the box. Could be more interesting, such as uploading features, geotagging, etc. Well, Nokia seems to be getting there, slowly. – ok
• Keys feel very cheap, they have a plastic that feels as it’s moving. – bad
• There’s a car charger, something besides numbers tells me the battery will die very quickly. – good
• No music in it. Not even one track. – bad
• The included movie, Transformers, is locked. I haven’t browsed through the box to find the code. – bad
• It comes with a free Tetris game. Why not Asphalt Urban or something? – bad
• The display is huge. – good
• Speakers are loud. – good
• My fingers fit nicely on the first keypad row, and typing isn’t bad at all. Will have to see tonight with MXit. – good
• Transitions not on by default. Why not? – bad
• Auto-rotation not on by default. Why not? – bad
• Navi-wheel doesn’t work. – bad
• Flash doesn’t seem to be very powerful, will have to compare it later to the N95. – bad

That’s pretty much it. I will think of something more concrete when I write the actual review. Until then, those of you who do have the N96, please share your knowledge/problems at the N96 discussion forum!

The company will show users how to make use of such a large amount of memory via the means of playing a game where one has to catch as much as multimedia files as possible. Six Nokia N96 are up from grabs, two for students only, and there is even more NSeries devices to be offered for gifts for on-spot contests, such as the one which Nokia will travel to College Campuses in Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai and provide users with hands-on preview of the N96.

At the right N96 N81 8GB, and at the left the N81 8GB N96. It’s not just the display that’s bigger, but there are few minor changes in cosmetics on the front. The keys are slightly separated, and the multimedia key is smaller. The navi-wheel is made thinner and higher so that it feels good to the finger.

Here it’s noticeable that the N81 8GB and N96 don’t differ much on thickness.

The N96 has a larger camera button, which is better for capturing and autofocus. Another change is the speaker placement. The N96 has a new speaker positioning, which is drives sound better if the phone is kept on the kickstand according to Matilla, and I truly agree with him.

The N96 has definitely a better keypad. Besides having wider keys, there are visual separations between them, and it’s much more “typeable” than the N81’s keypad. The slider itself feels like a mix between the N81’s and N95’s slider, not too rough, not too springy.

These pictures show the difference on the N96 camera when compared to the N818GB. They are both very similar, although the N96’s one is quite larger, as well as the dual flash. There are lines around the camera which supposedly are simple cosmetic details.

The memory card slot on the N96 is quite difficult to open without fingernails.

For some technical reason, the N96’s battery is placed laterally and not in a normal position such as the N81. It uses the BL-5F with 950mAH, same as the Nokia N95.

The flash is quite intense, and stronger than any camera flash I have seen, besides Xenon flash. The LED gets quite hot, so I’m not sure if recording for long will damage any internal circuitry.

The glossy surface leaves a lot of marks, especially fingerprints.

The multimedia keys feel excellent as they are quite large, and there are two gaming buttons, one sitting with the Play button, and the other with the Stop button. There seems to be some light leaking from the sides, although I don’t know if this is on purpose.

The N95 8GBs multimedia keys are considerably smaller than the N96’s. The kickstand feels really useful, and we miss it on the N95. We have never noticed the kickstand feature, but now that we have it, it really seems useful for multimedia playback or other features. The N96 is very loud when it comes to music or video, possibly one of the loudest phones in the market. The video player can play the files from beginning or from where you left the video last time.

The N96’s camera and flash seem to be quite larger than the N95 8GB. The N95 has a round outline to it, while the N96 has an oval outline to it, where the kickstand resides.

The software installed was quiet weak, one of the devices wasn’t working, while all others would crash often. The navi-wheel had no functionality.

A new feature in both these phones was the task switcher option in all applications. Whenever you press the left soft key, you could call the task switcher.

The SPMark wouldn’t install, so I cannot get you a score, and I could take videos either as the video recording application would crash after two seconds of recording.

Today at the launch in South Africa, Nokia stated in a press release that the Nokia N96 will ship to South Africa with the latest Transformers movie embedded in the devices’ memory.

This is expected to happen to other countries in the world, if not all. Henri Mattila gave a presentation on the upcoming N78, N96 and N82 Black and gave us detailed and exclusive information on the most advanced NSeries devices to date.

Stay tuned as we publish our interview with Mattila and reveal the official Nokia shipping date. Today was the final media release for South Africa, with other countries to follow. Everything is now public, no more to hide about these phones, we have hands-on comparison photos and ran tests on the N96 and N78. I couldn’t be more surprised by the N78’s User Interface, of which I will talk about it following posts.
