Two days for N96 to release!

May 5, 2008 by

Yes it’s only two more days before the Nokia N96 releases to the market. As I said previously, this should be the final media release, which means that in few weeks it will hit the markets. It only depends on national regulators, networks, and logistics on the date of release to the public, all retailers usually differ.

Stay tuned to our upcoming review. For now you can appreciate Mobile-Review’s Eldar’s review.

Dangerous websites selling Nokia N96

Have you ever thought how could a system like google checkout, ebay and other websites fail with their costumers? Probably not at all. Although now we have an example prove that Google Checkout is failing in this subject.

Because, one thing is a pre-order, and another is an engineous spammer trying just to making money, without having a real Nokia N96 mobile phone. Some of those spammers, also have pre-orders. And this is the worst case and the most dangerous going on the net. Because, we will regist that pre-order, and we will wait more than 6 moths to the Nokia N96 official release. Passing so many time, the guys who sold us the mobile phone can say that their company gone on bankrupt or they simply can close the website. Google or ebay, those can’t do anything, because of the time passed.

Other thing they normally do is selling a thing related to nokia n96, a website, some head phones, etc. The customer is attracted from the NOKIA N96 letters and simply make an order.

What I am trying to say (is my “poor” English”) is that you must have double precaution. Nokia N96 will come and buying one day before or one day later will not make any difference. Anyway, if you want to register a pre-order, do that, but with a Nokia recognized website.

Look at this print screen, from Google Shopping. This are all pre-orders. The website have good ratings from the customers, but you will just see Nokia N96 on the release that, or after it.

google shopping pre orders

As I said, at google shopping there are also spammers, and lots of them. Check the sellers right here and try to find who is an engineous spammer and who is an honest seller.

This example is one of a seller who is saying that he has Nokia N96 by 300$. Well, the official value will be more than 700$. So, be careful and in any case buy in this one.

The N96 experience

Alfredo Padilla was at CTIA reporting for WirelessInfo, and had a chance to show us how the N96 behaved.

He spoke about the multimedia features, as well as the cosmetics and appearance of the phone. To add up he detailed the specifications.

Stavros has a Nokia N96?

This was odd news, and I’m not sure if he does, but for some reason I don’t believe it. Check the video below, where he was interviewed by some bloggers, including my colleague Norman John at Symbian World. The magic question is in somewhere in the middle of the interview, but please let me know if you think it is the upcoming jewel or not.

Nokia N96 reviewed in english!

Eldar has had his mega-review of the upcoming jewel translated, of which in a previous post I chose my favourites shots.

Nokia N96 picture review

I will present my views on the phone by the weekend, but I leave you with an excerpt of the interesting article:

Interestingly, over a year ago Nokia started to enhance its product portfolio not only by varying styles, but also hardware platform underpinning their solutions. The Nokia N95 and its follow-ups built upon the TI OMAP chip, while the N96 takes advantage of STMicroelectronics’s Nomadik. So when comparing these two phones, their similarities don’t go beyond physical aspects, since other things, like functionality and hardware, are quite different.

Is the N96 a mass-market solution? No. Then, is it heavily specialized, aiming at one particular niche? No. It is rather somewhere in between. This phone will see moderate sales, although the fuss around it will easily shadow its modest numbers.”

How to be like Stavros!

Mark Guim posted an in-depth guide on how to play around with your Nokia Sports Tracker and Google Maps in order to achieve what Stavros does: Position Art.

Of course most of us aren’t as talented as Stavros, but now we can atleast give it a try.

Instructions

Step 1. Use Sports Tracker on your phone to record your location data. You can choose to run, walk, or whatever and it will record your path.

Step 2. When You are done, select ‘Upload to Service’ on the workout summary screen on your phone. The data will be uploaded to Sports Tracker online.

Step 3. On the Sports Tracker website, the route will be displayed on a map. To get this map on our blogs, we need to download the data as KML file by pressing the KML button above the map.

S60 3rd edition Feature Pack 2 fully reviewed!

Eldar Murtazin from Mobile-Review has had his mega-review of the S60 3rd edition Feature Pack 2, part of Symbian OS9.3, translated. For those of us who didn’t understand the original review, we can now enjoy the English words that so well describe the upcoming platform. Eldar used a Nokia N78 to derive screenshots and opinions. Surely the model must have been a test prototype, so we can expect changes on the release firmware.

The pictures I had posted on a past article, you can read the text here, but if you prefer to check the full review, please head over to the source.
