Finally back again to provide you all with latest news and software for the nokia n96. As you all probable know the nokia N96 is a quite attractive phone and now nokia have released a all black version obviously for the people who don’t think the n96 is black enough. When I heard of this phone I thought that nokia mite have tried to improve the phone but at least on the inside but I guess its not to be. Apart from the obvious black sides the only other visual difference is the pattern on the back which I think looks worse that the original (or now know as the nokia n96 grey). I think this new colour makes the phone look a lot more badass but I personally prefer the cleaner, shinier look of the grey n96 but I can understand why people would buy the black one but its such a minimal difference that it will make too many people jealous.

Nokia N96 App Review – Best Profiles

screenshot0058

Name: Best Profiles

Description: Profile Manager

Summary: I haven’t been impressed with too many applications these days normally because they only have one use. Its going to be a mouth full to tell you what Best Profiles can do for your Nokia N96 but ill give it a go. To start with lets go through the basics, Best Profiles will let you chose to change your profile everyday or just the selected days, you can also set up key words and whenever an event happens in your calender that uses that key word it will change to a selected profile. Best Profiles will also use your GSM location to chose a profile (which so far I have only been able to define a country but you mite be able to work or home locations) and of course it can change your profile when you charge your phone. With all this going on it could well happen that your profiles overlap so Best Profiles has a priority setting for each profile change it does. Now lets get onto the good stuff, first for every different profile you can have different wallpapers, Themes and sound notifications. Also upon activation of a profile you can set it to run multiple applications, different backlight settings and even bluetooth activity. All this needs a bit of planning what if you just want a quick change well Best Profiles has the ability to let you activate any profile at a certain time, after a certain time, for a certain time and even lock for a certain time if your not sure what other profile mite activate.

Overview: On its own Best Profiles doesn’t seem that much but if you think of the possibilities for example my previous post was power mp3 that could start playing music as soon as it opened so if you set that as the application your profile runs it could be an alarm clock that doesn’t stop. Just think what it could do I’m 100% sure that someone will think of an even better use of this application and I would love to hear about it when you do. Unfortunately I have some bad news Best Profiles isn’t free its only £6/$10 but I know that it will put most people off which is a shame because it is a good application and one day there will be a time this application will help you.

Nokia N96 N-gage Review – Spore

May 22, 2009 by Patrick Campbell

screenshot0035Name: Spore

Genre: Strategy/Adventure

SummarySpore has been out for the PC for about a year and it has been doing well mainly because of massive amount of game-play and innovative story. Spore has now been released for the Nokia N96 but with the lack of graphics and processing power, is it able to be a good game? The game itself is quite addictive and with ability to change every part of your creature. The point of the game is to eat little creatures so that yours can develop and the more you develop the more you can eat and defend yourself. The graphics works nicely and the game in whole runs smoothly the only thing that needs fixing is the navigation because it only uses up, down, left and right and a lot of the time you want to go in a diagonal direction.

Overview: I was a bit surprised with this game because I played the version for the Iphone which was about 20 bigger in size and that got very boring. However Spore for n-gage is better because its more fast paced and seems harder but I’m sure there’s more levels in the Iphone version. The other thing this game has is a multi-player so you can show off your creature to other n-gage players. In the end of the day I don’t think ill be buying this game just because I’ve played Iphone version. Read more

Nakia N96 App Review – Adaptxt

screenshot0030Name: Adaptxt

Description: predictive text/general word tool

Summary: I’m going to start by advising you to get this application because it is brilliant. Last month I posted a application called “Quickwrite” which did what you wanted but only in its own sms application. Adaptxt predicts you text everywhere and of course the more you use certain words the higher up the list they become. That’s not all Adaptxt has up its sleeve it can also predict the next few words in the sentence and if that’s not enough it also enables little key shortcuts to smileys and to copy the last word. Another tool this has is that it can translate your written text into different languages but most of them cost a few quid.

Overall: Adaptxt appears to be beta version so its free, however you do have to register to download and I know myself that some people aren’t going to be bothered with that so ill post another link to download. If anything is wrong with this application it’s that it has too many uses that sometimes seem to get in the way when your trying to do certain things. Read more

Nokia N96 N-gage review-Pandemonium

this-is-how-we-do0010

Name: Pandemonium

Genre: Action/Adventure

SummaryPandemonium has been around for a good few years originally coming out for the PlayStation, back then it was know for having good graphics but not great game play. Now It has been revived for the nokia n96 and with a new developer, will it surpass other games or will it fail? What the game does have is nice colourful environments, two playable characters each with different abilities and lots of levels. The multiplayer isn’t bad but you could get bored of racing each level again and again. The game feels like an old run and shoot arcade game with the only difference being that this uses a new style of graphics which make it look 3D. The detail should also be noted because someone spent a lot of time and it shows.

Overall: To answer the my earlier question, this game fails because its almost unplayable because it cant keep up with the frame rate so it stutters all the time. Also one of the characters use the normal n-gage controls which is fine but the other character needs both the normal N-gage controls and also the keypad so with that character you need to constantly open and close the slider. I tried this game on the n95 which it was much better but still slowed every now and again making it impossible to play the game fast which was meant to be the action in Action/Adventure. In the end of the day its a good game but you need a fast phone to play it. Read more

Nokia N96 N-Gage Review – Age of Empires 3

screenshot0122Name: Age of Empires III (AoE)

Genre:  Strategy

Summary: The AoE series has been going on for ages and it has finally been released for the Nokia N96 and is a welcome addition to the N-gage platform. Many of the other AoE games where notorious for being the greatest strategy games on low powered computers so if any game was to make a good  strategy game for the N96 and N-gage its AoE. First thing you notice about the game is the graphics which look exactly like AoE II, second you’ll notice how smoothly it runs which didn’t dip even with a lot going on. The Demo is quite limited so I’m not sure how many buildings there are but I’m sure there is more than the 4 you get to play with. The button controls are well placed but the directional pad takes a bit of getting used to.

Overview: In fairness I think this is the best they are going to be able to do as far as a strategy game for N-gage, even thought there are a few little things that a just taken away that makes the game too easy I found. I think that its an interesting game and will be quite popular all over the market. One thing that works nicely for this game is that it has a high tempo so your never waiting. I don’t know how good the really game is but the demo just isn’t convincing enough which is really annoying because this game has potential. Read more

Nokia N96 Accessories Review – InvisibleSHIELD

invisible_shieldName: InvisibleSHIELD

Description: Invisible Phone Protector

Summary: Spending so much on a Nokia N96 makes you want to protect that investment, invisibleSHIELD is know to many as the greatest protector available on the market. InvisibleSHIELD uses a very thin(0.2mm) “nano-memory” film that the military uses to protect helicopter blades and is extremely durable. Zagg owner of invisibleSHIELD has now released a protector for the Nokia N96 which will cover either the screen or the whole body. With the thickness of invisibleSHIELD you will never notice looking at the device or even pressing buttons and any scratch attempt will leave a small indent but invisibleSHIELD will heal itself in a matter of seconds.

Nokia N96 App Review – Slide Screensaver

April 22, 2009 by Patrick Campbell
Filed under Applications, NSeries, Nokia, Review, S60, Software

screenshot0068Name: Slide Screensaver

Description: Custom screen saver

Summary: With the Nokia N96 and in fact most N series have so many multimedia abilities and one of the biggest is pictures and images. After taking a few photos of friends, parties, pets and scenery they are just stored in your phone waiting to be viewed. Slide Screensaver lets you use any picture on your phone as a screen saver but instead of ust one picture you can have as many as you like. The application also has various effects and transitions with an adjustable intermissions from 2-60 seconds. You can also randomize all your pictures and set the display between landscape and portrait.

Overview: I can see why  Slide Screensaver is popular, I like look at photos every now and again and how many times have you looked at your phone and just seen a blank screen this application will every so often show you a picture that brings back a memory so it could be quite enjoyable. The only hesitation I have with this is that I think that this will kill your battery but it mite not be that bad, give it ago because its free and what just what we like.
