invisible_shieldName: InvisibleSHIELD

Description: Invisible Phone Protector

Summary: Spending so much on a Nokia N96 makes you want to protect that investment, invisibleSHIELD is know to many as the greatest protector available on the market. InvisibleSHIELD uses a very thin(0.2mm) “nano-memory” film that the military uses to protect helicopter blades and is extremely durable. Zagg owner of invisibleSHIELD has now released a protector for the Nokia N96 which will cover either the screen or the whole body. With the thickness of invisibleSHIELD you will never notice looking at the device or even pressing buttons and any scratch attempt will leave a small indent but invisibleSHIELD will heal itself in a matter of seconds.

Nokia N96 App Review – Slide Screensaver

screenshot0068Name: Slide Screensaver

Description: Custom screen saver

Summary: With the Nokia N96 and in fact most N series have so many multimedia abilities and one of the biggest is pictures and images. After taking a few photos of friends, parties, pets and scenery they are just stored in your phone waiting to be viewed. Slide Screensaver lets you use any picture on your phone as a screen saver but instead of ust one picture you can have as many as you like. The application also has various effects and transitions with an adjustable intermissions from 2-60 seconds. You can also randomize all your pictures and set the display between landscape and portrait.

Overview: I can see why  Slide Screensaver is popular, I like look at photos every now and again and how many times have you looked at your phone and just seen a blank screen this application will every so often show you a picture that brings back a memory so it could be quite enjoyable. The only hesitation I have with this is that I think that this will kill your battery but it mite not be that bad, give it ago because its free and what just what we like.

Nokia N96 App Review – Here and Now

screenshot00201Name: Here and Now(beta)

Description: Lite Localizer

Summary: Nokia have been making a big deal out of this application and will soon be pre-installed on most Nokia symbian smart phones in the future. It will also probably install on the Nokia N96 with the next software update, but it is not compatible with any older phone such as the N95 ect,,,. This application is still in beta testing so it could have a few problems, I didn’t have any but on nokia.com a few people are having problems with it starting and all of that. What “here and now” does is display localized information but as it is still beta there are only two services and they are local weather forecasts and local events. Nokia say that they will update with more services as of when they will do that is another matter they still have to fix all the known issues. Here and now uses ur network operator to find your location and all the information is provided by 3rd party contributors so its well informed.

Overview: I don’t know how big of a success this will be the funny thing with this is that it does not come as an application its just a bookmark in the inboard web browser so you may never find out you have it. The other issue I have with Here and now is that nokia are making a big deal about this but its not very innovative and I’m sure there are all ready applications or widgets that do this so if you don’t like try so others.

Nokia N96 App Review – LightSabre

screenshot0053Name: LightSabre

Description: Motion Sensor App

Summary: Lightsaber was one of the first application to use the motion sensor but it only worked with the older operating  systems. Now however Lightsabre works on the nokia n96, even thought this application is completely useless if has a very high fun factor. Lightsabre is an application that turns your phone into surprise surprise a lightsabre with all different sounds that are changed with different movements and you can make a striking sound by pressing any number. If your a not into playing around then stop reading now because this is purely for messing around with a mate. This new version works with all the latest phones like the N96, N97, N85, N79, 5800 so there mite a few more people with it around.

Overview: I love this application its so useless that you’ll open it when ever you come across it in you menu just for a bit of a laugh. The main reason I did a post about Lightsaber is because of the boom in motion sensor applications and as most of them are new only a few are getting updated so its nice to see this updated.

Nokia N96 app review – Photoinbox

April 11, 2009 by
Filed under Nokia, NSeries, Review, Software, Symbian

Name: PhotoInBox

Description: Photo sms display

Summary: This PhotoInBox is an application that will take you a year to set up and will last all of 5 minuets. Never the less its just another way to customize your phone and I’m sure any younger user will have this application right off. What PhotoInBox does is to display a picture of what ever or who ever you chose and when the designated contact send you a message it will display their picture. Its a little deeper than that for the application you can also create sms and Optimize the User-Interface, it feels like a sms base center so if anyone is big into sms which I know there’s a few should check it out.

Overview: You would need to be a big text-er to bother with PhotoInBox as it cost 11,99$ but could be worth a it, as I said it just depends on the person. I would also say that Its about time something like this came out we have been able to see callers with images and now you can have the same for sms. Give it a try because it dose have a 15 day trial so give it a go.

To buy this application you can get it here

Nokia N96 App review – xDancer

Name: xdancer

Description: Useless fun, music box

Summary: Well its a slow day for new applications but this is one that is totally made for a bit of fun. Maybe if you have kids and trust them enough to hold your phone then I’m sure you’ll download it. Xdance is an application developed by samir but its not one of his major application. I think he just created it for a friend so don’t expect too much. Xdancer uses the accelerometer and depending on the position of the phone the little dancer moves to a different pose and the more and more that you move it plays a song.

Overview: This application is as useless as “lightsaber” but saying that the lightsaber was downloaded almost 1/4 of a million times so this could be the lightsaber for the n96. This application is so simple yet over the past day or so I have played with it about 20 times so try it. This application is free so there’s no reason not to download it and I’m sure the creator would love the support.

Nokia N96 App Review – Hi’n'bye

Name: Hi’n'Bye

Description: Motion based call manger

Summary: In a world which pressing buttons is uncool, motion sensing is top dog and this application has motion sensing down. One of my first posts here was about an application called “Rock’n'Scroll” well this is its developed by the same people, KEYnetik who have only recently released these two applications have earned the rep of motion input king. SymbianWebBlogSymbian-Freak and Symbian Guru are all very impressed with it and I would definitely agree, its is a PERFECT APPLICATION. So lets talk about what this actually dose,  well if someone calls just pick up you phone and its answered, if your hands are busy then push it down fast and its on loudspeaker, pull it bask fast and loudspeaker is off, if someone else calls then just shake your phone and it will switch calls and then put down the phone to end the call. If you have had any experience with motion sensing applications you know they can be a bit unresponsive well not this it works 99% of the time.

Overview: If your just not a believer then you better listen Hi’n'bye is the real deal every other motion software is just a few steps behind it and KEYnetik look like they will stay top of the motion scening applications. The one thing that’s just a bit annoying is that they will not allow a demo which I’m sure would attract many more customers, so if you want Hi’n'bye then say bye to 10 euro. I’m not saying its a waste by all means buy this application if you want to be impressed. But its still not a must have

To buy this application you have to get it from KEYnetiks own website here

If you have any questions about Hi’n'bye please ask away in the forum

Name: Highway

Creator:  alfa

Summary: We have been reviewing nice themes here at Nokia N96 and this is one more theme for your Nokia N96 smartphone, like Green Deluxe, and our friends at Nokia N86 have also been reviewing nice themes both for Nokia N96 and Nokia N86. Everybody wants there phone to look different every now and again but finding a nice them can take a bit of time. Well here’s my recent favorite one at the moment, usually I like themes with nature but this caught my eye. Obviously its a digital image and that could put a few people off, which is fine and no matter what your taste alfa has probably created one to suit you. Anyway this them looks very nice and clear its a bit busy in the background but that’s just more to look at. This also come with a very nice set of icons which suits must application well.

Overview: I can understand that our users would want to see the time when their phone is locked but that should limit down their themes choice. If you still what to see the time from say cClock or any of the other clock themes the all you have to do is apply that themes screen saver file which is a .swi (or something close to that).

Download Highway by alfa here

Nokia N96 app review – Quickoffice Premier 6

slide_features_quickoffice_symbianName: Quickoffice Premier 6

Description: Office Utility

Summary: Everyone knows what Microsoft office is well this it the phone equivalent with a few less features but same quality. The award winning Quickoffice Premier 6.0 can open, view, create and save business plans, sales presentations, financial reports and of course word documents. This is one of the applications with you will either need or not. Personally I bought this ages ago when i first bought my phone because I was in university and I need to travel so instead of bringing my laptop everywhere I just had my phone to write word documents and other things like my budget. It supports DOCX, DOC, XLSX, XLSM, XLS, PPT, PPS, ZIP & TXT files and is compatible with office 97, 2000, XP, 2003, & 2007. Also this new version supports password protection and a updated UI.

Overall: There has been so many times I have been happy about having this on my phone and things like emails are much better to do in word then send them in email. Anyway enough with the small talk this application cost 40 euros, yer I know but If your a student then you could try buying it while in a university sever and they should give it to you for 25 euro.

If you want to try this application there is a free trial.

or buy it from here.

N96 campaigns ending

February 4, 2009 by

Nokia Portugal has released the new Nokia 5800 here in Portugal. When I checked the Nokia store in Portugal, Lisbon, I saw a complete store focused on promoting the 5800. I have not seen any poster regarding the N96. The store was covered by pink and white colours and there were some girls at the entrance of the store.

I think probably the same thing is happening in many countries. Nokia stopped promoting the Nokia N96 and began campaigns regarding the 5800.

Have you noted something similar to this? The end of the N96 campaigns and the 5800 substitution?

Below, you can check some pictures of the Nokia 5800 release at Lisbon.
