Description: Call and Msg Manager

Summary: I’m sure everyone or at least most people have received phone calls on their nokia n96, normally its easy to ignore but it can still get annoying. Easy Reject is an application that perfects the art of rejecting calls and messages with out you even knowing. Easy Reject can import your numbers you what to avoid from your phonebook and your call log and then it will reject their calls and messages without any sort of notification at all. Easy Reject also lets you check who has called, how many times they called and what the messages say.

Overview: There are many applications that claim to reject your calls but I’ve never seen one that does this good of a job. There’s still the same problem with private numbers so its not exactly perfect but its still very handy application. Easy Reject cost $18.50 but there is a 20 call trial so you can see how good the application is, which is what you can download below Read more

Screenshot0107Name: Data Quota

Description: Data Manager

Summary: For phones like the nokia n96 you really need to buy it on a tariff to make it affordable and because the internet is so useful on your nokia N96 its nice to have a few free MB of packet data to surf. The problem that can arise is that if your don’t have unlimited packet plan then it can cost quite allot to if you go over your quota. Data Quota is an application that monitors your internet usage and you can put in your bill date and data plan so it can warn you when you have only a few MB. Nowadays everyone has wifi and that’s free so Data Quota doesn’t count the MB you use.

Overview: Data Quota is a very small, really handy and simple application that will let your keep a good eye on your data plan. Data Quota is a free application so it can only save you money, so if you use packet data internet then you really should download this application. Read more

Description: Media Player

Summary: We all should know by now that the Nokia n96 is very much a media phone is its awesome speakers, large screen and stand. Because its a media phone your always going to want good quality media and a good quality media player. UCPlayer is a Chinese media player translated to English that really only deals with videos but that’s fair since there are plenty of great mp3 players. UCPlayer may only deal with videos but it deals with videos very well, first UCPlayer will chose which file type to associate with and then you can easily search your files for your videos. UCPlayer can support flv, avi, wmv, mkv, 3gp, 3gpp, mp4 videos so you can easily play good quality videos.

Overview: With its customisable colour scheme, great sound output and excellent file support make UCPlayer a really good media player. The problem with UCPlayer is that you can adjust the brightness or contrast but all that make it more of a install and play application. I’m pretty sure UCPlayer is a free application so you can download below and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality media player. Read more

Description: Network Manager

Summary: I’m sure by now you all have realised what an important role the Internet plays in modern life, and I’m sure you all know the amount of benefits your nokia n96 has when its connected to the Internet. One of the biggest problems with the Internet is that it needs a consistent Internet setting, and at home that’s fine but when your out and about you have to pay and it can get expensive. Connect is a new network manager by Psilco that will let you chose mutable networks to connect to when they are available or to the 3g connection so  you can always have Internet. Connect can be set as your default network connections so that you can always be connect thought one way or another.

Overview: Psiloc is one of the biggest symbian software creators so when ever they create an applications you know its going to work perfectly. Connect is a great little application if you want to keep you phone online, connect will also save the amount of data usage so you can save money. Nokia N96 App Review – ExeMaster

screenshot0075Name: ExeMaster

Description: Auto-Start Manager

Summary: In the past week or so there have been a few applications that have many functions and it has been a long time before I have seen one that only does only one thing. ExeMaster is an application for your nokia n96 thats designed to only do one thing, and that is to control your applications. I know a few applications can do stuff like this but none can do it to the same extent. ExeMaster can let you chose how your applications open like whether it runs or runs in the backgroung or any other way. ExeMaster can save your chosen applications and let you activate and deactivate them very easily.

Overview: It’s really refreshing to see an application that can do more than what you expected. ExeMaster has lots of quality and works perfectly on the nokia n96 and could almost be called nessesary but that depends on the applications that you are running. ExeMaster isn’t a free application but it only cost $3.50 so its hardly a big problem but the application does have a 14 day trial that will let you use all it’s features. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – EasyMap

screenshot0058Name: EasyMap

Description: GPS Map

Summary: Since google came out with its free maps there have been a good few competitors but they never seem to be able to beat Google Maps.EasyMap is another application based on openstreetmap map style and is know for its uasablity and speed. EasyMap uses your gps to find your location and displays the street maps of the local environment and show you the local services you mite need like trains and buses. EasyMap is built for quality and speed but the speed seems to be missing, but the quality of the application more than enough to get you to forget that.

Overview: Well EasyMap is a nice looking application but really lacks function, EasyMap only has the abiltiy to look a the map, no navigation and no search. With the lack of functions you would wonder why the creators want 13$ for it, but if you want to try out the demo then it will last 14 days and will let you see a few of the good points. Truthfully this application has no noticeable value, better to stick with google maps. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Yelp

Name: Yelp

Description: Catering/ Service Finder

Summary: The Internet adds a whole new dimention to your nokia n96, yet we are only using about 10% of the internets capabiltiyies. One of the best things about the internet is the information you can find out and the fact that anybody can input their own review of things. For anyone who doesn’t know what Yelp is,Yelp is a search engine that looks for Restaurants, Shopping, Nightlife, Entertainment, Services and More and also users are given the option to rate each service. Now Yelp have released an application for the nokia n96 that allows the yelp search engine to utlise your symbian phone so it can be more efficient.

Overview: I call this an application when really its just a bookmark to their search engine but it not the same as if you went to the website from your browser. Yelp is of course free because who would pay for a bookmark but it does seem quite handy to have if you are looking for some service. One thing with Yelp is that in some countrys there are many more reviews so it mite not be as helpfull to some as it is to others. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – FExplorer Pro

screenshot0040Name: FExplorer Pro,

Description: Complete Phone Utility,

Summary: It seems like applications now a days applications are either going to have to have one great and unique feature or a whole bunch of other features. FExplorer Pro is the latest application from SBSH for the nokia n96 to act as a complete phone /utility tool. FExplorer Pro is at first a File Manager with a task manager, process manager, Image Viewer, screen capture tool, memory defragment and file editor. Also FExplorer Pro can give you information about your phone or your network and has a good few settings that make most features more customisable. Normally with applications like this one some of the features are a bit crap but all the features in this are top notch.

Overview: FExplorer Pro is pretty good I guess the problem I have with it is that its just a bit longer turn on or to modify in your own way. FExplorer Pro is really good as a file manager because its so compatible with so many file types. FExplorer Pro is not a free application but it only cost $10 and if your not sure you can download the 13 day trial. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Resizer

screenshot0034Name: Resizer

Description: Mobile Image Resizer

Summary: If anyone does software design you will know that media and Gui are the two largest files in most software, the same could be said about your nokia n96. It’s funny that we all want phones with a high megapixel count even though you screen can only display a much smaller amount, its fair enough if you are exporting the image to a PC or other devices but for a image that only going to display on you phone it may as well be the size of your screen. Resizer is an application that will let you search through your files and then it will let you re-size it to a smaller image or a bigger image. The image resolution can be changed to any size and it wont lose any quality unless your making an image bigger.

Overview: Resizer is a nice little application I haven’t seen any software on phone or PC that works this easily. There’s a few things missing in this application like the lack of adjustable settings and the UI is a bit lame but it gets the job done. Resizer is a free application so you can try it just for a few days to see how it goes. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – DynaFile

September 16, 2009 by Patrick Campbell
Filed under Nokia, Review, S60, Software, Symbian

screenshot0026Name: DynaFile

Description: File Manager

Summary: There are tones and tones of file managers for the nokia n96, which is great because of the 16Gb internal memory that needs to be sorted. It’s fair enough that nokia have a pre-installed file manager but its just so useless that I don’t see a point in using it. That being the case you have to chose what file manager to use, DynaFile is a new file manager and this one of the best. DynaFile has all the normal functions that’s in every other file manager plus a Installation manager, uninstall manager, boot manager, Application manager and a certification tool. The most handy feature I find is the blue-tooth inbox manager which makes it so much easier to find and move files you receive from bluetooth.

Overview: On paper this DynaFile sounds perfect in practice its not so perfect, only because the boot manager doesn’t work on the nokia n96 but everything else is fine. One thing I didn’t mention is the key shortcuts which make the whole usage of the application very easy, but you’ll need to go to “more info” to find out what they all do. DynaFile looks like it was translated but I could be mistaken but it still in beta form which means its free so I think I’ll be using it as my file manager. Read more
