screenshot0018Name: Talkonaut

Description: Call, Voip and Im

Summary: There are many applications that can do the same operations with maybe a few different features that define its purpose. Talkonaut is an application for the nokia n96 that doesn’t have one defining feature it more or less takes up the whole communication section of symbian. Talkonaut can range from things like Msn messenger to voip and everything in between. Its also a very smart application because it recognises the location of the number you are calling and will then find you the cheapest way to call them. Another great thing about this application is the amount of settings available which make it so customizable and user friendly, although it mite take a while to find all its features.

Overview: When I was installing this application I had no idea what I was in for, Talkonaut has an immense amount of features it would probably take about 2 days to list them all. With this application you can replace about 6-8 applications that you mite use with one. As a cherry on top of all that Talkonaut is a free application and its runs so fast and smoothly that I can no longer suggest any other application to do the same purpose. Read more

screenshot0013Name: BatterySaver

Description: Power Manager

Summary: With all the advances in technology its strange that batteries still don’t have enough charge the nokia n96 for more than a few days. The Lack of battery life in the nokia n96 is one of its biggest problems and for some it would be considered the only problem. BatterySaver is an application that can control your applications, gps, bluetooth, screensaver, backlight and the brightness to save more power and make your battery last longer. BatterySaver watches your battery level so that it can adjust the setting to make save more power when the battery is low. It has different pre set profiles that varies the level of power you save that can be edited to match your style, BatterySaver also has the ability to start at your defined time.

Overview: In theory BatterySaver is a good application in practice its even better all the settings and conditions that you can set are just the settings you want. I guess the only thing I can complain about is that this application isn’t free so that will put off a few people but it only cost £5 so if you battery annoys you that much you can try the demo and see if there’s any improvement. Nokia N96 App Review – WinRAR

screenshot0003

Name: WinRar

Description: file Archive/Extractor

Summary: Many comments we get here are saying that their phone doesn’t support .rar, I’m sure many more people are will know exactly what to do with .rar files. Instead of telling everyone what you should do I thought it would just be better(easier) to make the nokia N96 support .rar files. WinRar is the application that most people use to extract rar files and now there’s a WinRar application for the nokia n96. The Application itself is simple and easy to use and it associates the .rar file with the application, so anytime you have an application in .rar on your phone then you can just open it and it will open WinRar.

Overview: Most people who use WinRar will know exactly what this application will be like, for the others the application is very easy to use all you really need to do is decide where to store the file. WinRar for the nokia n96 is free so if you download lots of applications from your phone then this will probably be very handy, but I just use my PC to download and extract file and then send it to my phone. Anyway WinRar is small and Handy so it makes for a good download. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – BeepTimer

screenshot0383

Name: BeepTimer

Description: Regular Alarm

Summary: I feels like its getting to the point where I can no longer find interesting applications so I’m left with the less interesting ones to review but none the less they all deserve there place in the spot light. BeepTimer is an application that lets off a beep every hour, 1/2 hour, 1/4 hour ect… and can be set to turn on and to turn off at the time you decide. As the application can only do one thing you know its not going to be that popular but some mite like it. I think the only people that mite like this application are the people that need to keep a rough idea of the time over a few hours or someone who has to continually check on something.

Overview: I’m not really sure why someone bothered to make this application yes it works fine but just doesn’t have any obvious purpose. BeepTimer is a free application so If you think your need it then its yours, if this isn’t quite the application that you want then but you think this mite do then my advice is to keep looking because there are many timer applications that do a whole lot more Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – PowerBoot

screenshot0378Name: PowerBoot

Description: Boot Utility

Summary: There are loads of applications for the nokia N96 and I’m sure everyone has the favorite but one of the main problems I find with some of the applications is that they don’t incorporate an auto-start function. PowerBoot is an application that allows you to chose what applications start up with the phone. Although there are a few applications already available that can do the exact same but I thing this one is probably the easiest to use. One thing that PowerBoot had that I haven’t noticed in other applications like this is it can identify your java applications as well as the .sis ones.

Overview: In fairness PowerBoot isn’t a very interesting application but it definitely serves a purpose but doesn’t really do anything surprising. PowerBoot is a free application and works without any problems but be sure to activate it before you close it. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Yahoo

screenshot0366Name: Yahoo oneSearch

Description: Online Search Engine

Summary: I’m more of a google/hotmail guy so because in my opinion yahoo a bit lame and comes up with irrelevant results and is never as interesting as the google counter parts. However google have released a few applications for the nokia N96 and one or two of them are pretty good but finally Yahoo have released an application for the nokia n96. Yahoo’s oneSearch application is quite a nice little application that creates a shortcut to the yahoo search engine on your desktop or phone top. The applications also has a voice function so you no longer need to type in what you want to search.

Overview: This application is better than the google app but I wouldn’t use it instead because this yahoo app uses to many buttons. Another reason why I wouldn’t use this as an application because it likes to close its and unless you want it as one of your shortcut buttons its annoying to open. Yahoo oneSearch is a free application but it was such a pain to find the download link so I hope you all appreciate. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Incallert

screenshot0350

Name: Incallert

Description: In Call Alert

Summary: If you ever find that you spent  longer on call than you mite of liked or more than you can really afford then this mite be the application for you. Incallert is an application for your nokia n96 that will alert you after every minute with a subtle beep that will only be heard on your side of the phone. Incallert can auto start and can be easily set to any amount of time so you can get a friendly reminder when you have been on the phone for a few minutes. I think there is a few application that can do pretty much the same as this but I don’t think any other one is as easy to use.

Overview: There’s definitely a use for this application the a few things that annoys me about the application is that you can only do intervals of 1 minute so if you are trying to make a short call this can’t help you. Anyway Incallert is a free application so it should have a little place in your phone’s memory. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – N Lighter

Filed under Nokia, Review, S60, Software, Symbian

screenshot0336Name: N Lighter

Description: Fire Animation

Summary: I hope that lots of people take interest in this animation because it could be the start of something new. If you remember when some themes came out for the nokia n96 that used a clock animation on the screen saver it was good but this was actually the first information based screen saver for the nokia n96. N Lighter is an application that displays a flame which seems to react to movements around it but that could just be my imagination because nobody has said anything about it. The application is just a total gimmick but this gimmick comes in a .swf which is the same file type as the clock screen saver so potentially you have a really cool screen saver.

Overview: Now in all fairness it has the potential to be a really cool screen saver but it only worked right once because your have to press something to start it and when you do that the phone goes back to its normal display. I’m hoping someone creates on that starts straight away but we’ll have to see if anyone actually does. N Lighter is designed for the S60v5 but it works all the same, N Lighter is also free so you all can check it out and remember that it is a beta so it could be getting better. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – VibrateCall

screenshot0320Name: VibrateCall

Description: Call Utility

Summary: If you consider the amount of time you spend on you nokia N96 waiting for someone to answer their phone and half the time people don’t answer so you just wasted a minute of your life listening to your phone for nothing. VibrateCall is a very handy application that will tell you when there is someone on the other end of your call. VibrateCall does this by vibrating while your contact’s phone is ringing and it will stop once someone answers their phone, and if you don’t want it to vibrate you can make it go on loudspeaker or even both so you know exactly when someone is on the other end. The application can also auto-start and can be hidden and it works like a charm.

Overview: This is great application really simple and really clever and doesn’t seem to have a single downside to it so it makes for a really good application. There is one small thing and that is that its not free but its only $4.99 which is nothing for an application that will be used every time you make a call. There is a trial which doesn’t look like it has any limit so be sure to check out this great new application. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Switch Off

screenshot0315Name: Switch Off

Description: Power Manager

Summary: Turn on and off you nokia n96 is the job of the power button and always will be this isn’t a application to replace it. Switch Off can turn off you nokia n96 at any user define time and can be enabled very easily, quite simple really. I don’t think there’s any really purpose for having this application only what the user can think of. I came up with two reasons one is for security so that your phone turns off everyday so that if someone who has your phone doesn’t have the pin code they are going to have a problem. The second reason is for the better health of your nokia n96 by turning your phone off regularly it should work better and faster. All this requires can be yours if you can be bothered to turn on you phone every now and again.

Overview: Having the ability to do this is almost something you expect, if you can do it on a PC why not on a phone right. Switch Off is a free application that maybe useful at some time and it probably better to have and not need it than to need it and not have it. So overall this application isn’t that important but it mite be handy for some but completely useless for others, all the application isn’t signed so if your phones not hacked you will have to sign it.
