Description: Mobile Image Resizer

Summary: If anyone does software design you will know that media and Gui are the two largest files in most software, the same could be said about your nokia n96. It’s funny that we all want phones with a high megapixel count even though you screen can only display a much smaller amount, its fair enough if you are exporting the image to a PC or other devices but for a image that only going to display on you phone it may as well be the size of your screen. Resizer is an application that will let you search through your files and then it will let you re-size it to a smaller image or a bigger image. The image resolution can be changed to any size and it wont lose any quality unless your making an image bigger.

Overview: Resizer is a nice little application I haven’t seen any software on phone or PC that works this easily. There’s a few things missing in this application like the lack of adjustable settings and the UI is a bit lame but it gets the job done. Resizer is a free application so you can try it just for a few days to see how it goes. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Lie Detector

Description: Lie Detector

Summary: I’m sure we all have seen these cheap lie detector toys that are just for a bit of fun, but it always sounds nice if you had a real one. Now there is a Lie Detector for your nokia n96 that will help you decided if someone is lying to you over the phone. Lie Detector in theory works but is far from perfect, Lie detector will analyse your conversation and then match your voice and remove it so it can tell if someones voice pitch changes. Leaving the only thing you have to do is remember when you asked the question. The application really only works on yes and no answer questions so it mite turn out like quite a funny call.

Overview: I tried this application but unless my girlfriend is a raisin it didn’t really work so I guess its just more of a gimmick application. I don’t think its really designed to a gimmick application but come on for a phone lie detector what exactly do you expect, also lie detector is a free application (I can’t confirm its a free application but I can’t find anywhere to buy it so it should be free) so you mite as well give it a go, it could be a good bit of fun. Finally back again to provide you all with latest news and software for the nokia n96. As you all probable know the nokia N96 is a quite attractive phone and now nokia have released a all black version obviously for the people who don’t think the n96 is black enough. When I heard of this phone I thought that nokia mite have tried to improve the phone but at least on the inside but I guess its not to be. Apart from the obvious black sides the only other visual difference is the pattern on the back which I think looks worse that the original (or now know as the nokia n96 grey). I think this new colour makes the phone look a lot more badass but I personally prefer the cleaner, shinier look of the grey n96 but I can understand why people would buy the black one but its such a minimal difference that it will make too many people jealous.

Nokia N96 Game Review – Captain Fatal 3D

screenshot0269Name: Captain Fatal

Genre: Action/Shooter

Summary: With N-gage gaming being thought of the best mobile gaming available it seems unlikely that you will find a good game that’s not for the N-gage on your nokia N96. Captain Fatal 3D is a new game that’s just like the old doom style game, picking up weapons and items while killing enemies as you navigate thought the maze of the map. The graphics are quite good the detail of the weapons is top notch but the levels and enemies have very little detail. Another problem I had was that the processor in the nokia n96 was just unable to keep up with the frame rate of the game. This isn’t the first game like this for nokia n96 and I just don’t believe these games will work right until phones have more power. I like the look of this game but would probably need to be played on a faster phone.

Overview: It’s a shame I have to say this but if you are planning to use this game on the N96 then don’t get it because it just won’t work fast enough. However anyone with a N95 will probably really like this game and the developers put in so much effort that I’m sure any player will be amazed at some of the graphics, if your not convinced then I’m providing a link to a video of the game in action. The game is also a .jar so it will work on loads of phones. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – PowerMovie

Name: PowerMovie

Description: Media Player

Summary: I know myself that the real player that’s pre-installed on the nokia N96 has its problems but overall it works quite well but that doesn’t mean that there’s isn’t anything better. PowerMovie is a new video player for your n96 that supports AVI(DivXXVid) and MP4 codecs and a few other handy things like being able to rotate the screen 270° and being able to chose a start time. What I do like about this application is how intuitive it is and how easily it changes clips and another little touch that I like is the ability to change the brightness, contrast and saturation. PowerMovie will also scan you phone for video clips, the search isn’t the best I’ve seen as it missed a few but it was quicker than what I expected.

Overview: There’s good news and bad news with this application first the bad news and that is that it costs $20.00 which is a lot for an application that doesn’t have anything new. The good news i that it does have a 15 day trial so you can see how good it is but there’s still no reason for the cost but ignoring the cost its a pretty good application and a good bit better that the pre-installed real player. Nokia N96 App Review – Smartlight

Description: Backlight Manager,

Summary: With our nokia N96 I am slowly coming across actions that you can’t customise or can’t customise in the way you want. The only way to fix these is to go though them one at a time and today I’m dealing with the stupidity of the back-lightSmartlight is an application designed control your back-light but it does it in a very smart way, what Smartlight does is keep you back-light on as long as you are using an application but when you exit it goes back to the phones normal setting. The beauty of this application is that it is very small and runs it the background to its completely out of mind letting it do its job perfectly. One trick the creators miss out on is implementing an auto-start function which just adds a bit of hassle, but only a bit.

Overview: In theory this application is going to drain your battery but there is a little trick and that is turning the back-light display down to 5 seconds. So when ever you finish using an application the back-light turns off very quickly but when your using an application it will stay on forever. I like Smartlight, I find it annoying when my back light goes off while I’m doing something and Smartlight just takes all that way. Now Smartlight isn’t free but it’s not expensive only $8 or 5 euro but it has a trial that seems unlimited so that’s is a good one to download. ( sorry about the lack of screenshots but it’s hard to take a pic of a light going on and off) Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – NetworkAcc

networkacc_connection_typeName: NetworkAcc

Description: Network Connections Accelerator

Summary: With the new OVI store controlling all the applications that we download for the nokia N96 with the stupid “download from device only” setup it seems clever to have a way of improving your download speedNetworkAcc is an application created by the same people who created Memory-Up to speed up download speedNetworkAcc is a very professional application giving you the power to improve the network speed of any connection from any carriers, and on some speed tests it did have a slight improvement but it was very variable. The thing that is a real worry is that there is no trial and it cost $9.99 so its a tough call whether to buy, maybe if you wait for a week or two they will come out with a trial.

Overview: I was only able to try this because my friend has it on his phone, so I hope you’ll forgive me for using another sites screenshots. However when I used it I could feel it being faster at loading pages but I don’t think I will ever buy this application, so waiting for a trial that’s hopefully coming. Otherwise I don’t have any complaints and it covers more connection types than I thought it could. Read more

Nokia N96 N-gage Review – Asphalt 4: Elite Racing

screenshot0101

Name: Asphalt 4: Elite Racing

Genre: Driving/Racing

Summary: Asphalt is a long running mobile phone racer and Elite Racing is the second game for N-gage. Asphalt 3 was one of the first racing games out for n-gage then need for speed came along and showed us what was possible on our nokia N96 and Asphalt 4: Elite Racing is now here to show what it can do. If you played Asphalt 3 you will thing this is the same thing in terms of graphics and UI but with new cars and new tracks it seems as if Asphalt 3 got a face lift but really its all the same as the older one. I will say that the roads have more turns and a more open feeling environment. All the same Asphalt 4: Elite Racing has some nice cars an will give you a few hours of game play but not sure its an improvement on the 3rd one.

Overview: This seems like such a waste of time it appears to be Asphalt 3 with new backgrounds so I don’t understand why released anything that’s had this little attention. I’m not saying its a bad game well Asphalt 3 wasn’t a bad game but after playing for a year or two now its a bit boring and its good that they are keeping the game alive but I think they could have improved the game. In the end of the day I still think need for speed is better and in fairness they don’t even give you a proper amount of time to try it out. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – RaceChrono

screenshot0065Name: RaceChrono

Description: Gps Track Location Log

Summary: First lets clear up what it is, RaceChrono is an application that uses your gps to find and track your location on race tracks. Just to be clear this is app is only for people who use local race tracks on these open days or even if your big into go-karts. RaceChrono has about 180 race tracks all around the world and you can even add a new one if you local is on the server. The many point of RaceChrono is to record you lap times and overall performance and will help you find the best possible time and how much Gforse is in each turn. RaceChrono isn’t only limited to cars and race tracks you can also use it for motorboat racing. With all the information you gather you should be able to work out the fastest way.

Overview: I don’t know what it is about this application that makes it so disireable (RaceChrono has been download 100,000 times) some places are saying its because its free but I’m not sure about that I think it has to do with the increase of open track days. As I said this application is free but if you think what it enables you to do and how much it would cost to do this in other ways, so if you use this application enough then you should probably donate a few quid. Nokia N96 App Review – Power Mp3

screenshot0045

Name: power mp3

Description: Mp3 Player

Summary: I posted a previous version of this application a while back but then it didn’t have an equalizer now however it does so it makes for a perfect Mp3 player for your Nokia N96. If you have use Power Mp3 before you will know its based on the original media player but it has a few things that that’s not included in the original one. The first addition this has is the use of short cuts using the numeral keypad, Power Mp3 also has a mood setting that you can define for each song and rate it as well. Other things that Power Mp3 has is a preamp, bass boost, loudness and stereo widening. Another feature of Power Mp3 is the skins and themes that you can apply that gives Power Mp3 nice interface.

Overall: I know its hard to change media players and even though this mp3 player is better bit quite a distance but I just can see it actually replacing the original one.  What I will tell you is that this is a beta at the moment so you can download it for free but I think when the full version is out it will probably cost a few quid so it is really worth downloading.
