Name: Mr Expense

Description: Expense Tracker

Summary: At the moment with this recession going on it seems wise to try and stretch out your budget by optimising your expenditure. There is loads of software to do this on your PC but how often do you buy little things that you mite forget. This is where Mr Expense comes in, Mr Expense is any application designed to help you keep track of your money. It dose this by creating a log that you have to update when your buy anything and keeps an note of when, how, the cost and what you purchased and when you have filled in your purchases Mr Expense will work out the total and then give you a report on what you spent your money on. Mr Expense is basically a database for your nokia n96 and with all the customizable settings its a pretty good one at that.

Overview: I understand that some people deal with larger amounts of money on a daily basis but I can’t understand how someone would forget what they spent any size able money they spent during the week. So when I first started it I thought it was going to be useless and rubbish but I was mistaken because this application is so good it’s necessary. Unfortunately necessity comes at a price of $9.99 which is fair enough but if you are really hit by the recession then I doubt that you will spend your money on this but there is a 7 day trial below so check that out. Name: Personality Psychology Pro

Description: Personality analyzer

Summary: First this application is only for fun it has no purpose, I say its fun but really its the funnest application available for your Nokia N96Personality Psychology Pro asks you questions all about yourself and your life style and after all that it give you a graph and explains the results. When I call it “the funnest application” I mean it will keep you entertained the longestPersonality Psychology Pro has over 1,000 questions as well as games and images. The most interesting thing about this application is the questions which have about 32 categories which range in questions that will either make you laugh or think. With Personality Psychology Pro you can set up different profiles for your friends so you can compare and joke around.

Overview: This application is still making me laugh, it will ask you ridiculous questions that you would never expect to be asked. The controls are easy using simple keypad shortcuts but when ever you have to put in text a qwerty keyboard pops up. Personality Psychology Pro cost $9.95 but it is one of enjoyable application out there. I would recommend you check out the trial to see what I’m talking about. In the full version you will be surprised with all the little extras like stories and your favourite animal or colour. Nokia N96 App Review – Best Profiles

screenshot0058

Name: Best Profiles

Description: Profile Manager

Summary: I haven’t been impressed with too many applications these days normally because they only have one use. Its going to be a mouth full to tell you what Best Profiles can do for your Nokia N96 but ill give it a go. To start with lets go through the basics, Best Profiles will let you chose to change your profile everyday or just the selected days, you can also set up key words and whenever an event happens in your calender that uses that key word it will change to a selected profile. Best Profiles will also use your GSM location to chose a profile (which so far I have only been able to define a country but you mite be able to work or home locations) and of course it can change your profile when you charge your phone. With all this going on it could well happen that your profiles overlap so Best Profiles has a priority setting for each profile change it does. Now lets get onto the good stuff, first for every different profile you can have different wallpapers, Themes and sound notifications. Also upon activation of a profile you can set it to run multiple applications, different backlight settings and even bluetooth activity. All this needs a bit of planning what if you just want a quick change well Best Profiles has the ability to let you activate any profile at a certain time, after a certain time, for a certain time and even lock for a certain time if your not sure what other profile mite activate.

Overview: On its own Best Profiles doesn’t seem that much but if you think of the possibilities for example my previous post was power mp3 that could start playing music as soon as it opened so if you set that as the application your profile runs it could be an alarm clock that doesn’t stop. Just think what it could do I’m 100% sure that someone will think of an even better use of this application and I would love to hear about it when you do. Unfortunately I have some bad news Best Profiles isn’t free its only £6/$10 but I know that it will put most people off which is a shame because it is a good application and one day there will be a time this application will help you.

Nokia N96 N-gage Review – Spore

screenshot0035Name: Spore

Genre: Strategy/Adventure

SummarySpore has been out for the PC for about a year and it has been doing well mainly because of massive amount of game-play and innovative story. Spore has now been released for the Nokia N96 but with the lack of graphics and processing power, is it able to be a good game? The game itself is quite addictive and with ability to change every part of your creature. The point of the game is to eat little creatures so that yours can develop and the more you develop the more you can eat and defend yourself. The graphics works nicely and the game in whole runs smoothly the only thing that needs fixing is the navigation because it only uses up, down, left and right and a lot of the time you want to go in a diagonal direction.

Overview: I was a bit surprised with this game because I played the version for the Iphone which was about 20 bigger in size and that got very boring. However Spore for n-gage is better because its more fast paced and seems harder but I’m sure there’s more levels in the Iphone version. The other thing this game has is a multi-player so you can show off your creature to other n-gage players. In the end of the day I don’t think ill be buying this game just because I’ve played Iphone version. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Speedy Go

screenshot0028

Name: Speedy Go

Description: System Utility

SummarySpeedy Go is an application that’s designed to speed up your display and overall performance of your Nokia N96Speedy Go is the first application developed by CellPhoneSoft for the symbian operating system normally they make applications for UIQ systemsSpeedy Go isn’t the first application to come along saying it can boost phone speed, it is however one of the first that I was able to notice a difference while it was running. Speedy Go can test your phone’s speed and then you can retest your phone with the  on and see what the difference is.

Overview: Speedy Go isn’t free but it does have a trial so see what you think of that. It’s impossible to say if this speeds up your phone, maybe it just uses the placebo effect, what ever it does the phone does seem to act a bit sharper. On my phone the test first archived a result of 350 and after running the speed boost I tested it again and got a result of 400 so that’s a boost of 50, 50 what is the question. Read more

Nokia N96 App Reveiw – Xclock

screenshot0001Name: Xclock

Description: Alarm Clock Manger,

Summary: I know that the default alarm on the Nokia N96 isn’t a bad one, in fact it seems to do everything that’s possible, or does it? Xclock this will do everything that the original one does like setting a daily alarm or weekly alarm, you can have different tones and text alerts and everything else the original one. Xclock has a few things that you mite not expect like recording a message for it to play to you when your alarm goes off, not only that it also has a countdown timer and a stopwatch which I miss to the Nokia N96Xclock Is a great alarm application and with its little extras make it unique.

Overview: I know that the latest firmware makes it possible play a recording with the alarm but the way that you can record your voice straight from the application so you can record a quick reminder like “take out the bins” or “get milk” so it can be quite handy. The things I don’t like is that you can’t set “workdays” so you have to be a bit clever to make it perfect. The UI is a little confusing and maybe the biggest off worried I have is that it costs $16.69 which quite a cost but I will say that the trial will let you see the benefits of it. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – My Ringtone

this-is-how-we-do0014

Name: My Ringtone(1.21),

Description: Mobile Mp3/Ringtone editor,

Summary: There is a few mp3 editor applications and even thought you only need one the problem I found was that many of them didn’t work on my Nokia N96. My Ringtone isn’t the first one that worked but it was the first one that worked the way I wanted it to. My Ringtone does exactly what you want an mp3 editor to do, find a song, listen to it, edit it and then save. What is good about My Ringtone is that all the buttons need to edit the mp3 and the split timers really help find the exact place to trim. Visually My Ringtone is quite good it has 5 different themes and a nice visualiser, which I know is pointless for an application that your only going to use one or twice a month but the default theme is really ugly.

Overview: Its my dream that one day nokia will incorporate this in there own operating system as like a slider that adjusts the start point because its something so basic but no one really want their ring tone to start from start. My Ringtone does all that you could want but there is a problem and that is that it’s not free. Its not that expensive only $5 but if that’s too much there is an older version(1.08) that’s free. There is a trial for the latest version which I suggest you try it. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Gravity

this-is-how-we-do0001

Name: Gravity

Description: Native Twitter Client

Summary: Twitter has over a million users so a native client for the Nokia N96 is a good idea, Gravity is just one client but its said to be one of the better ones. Gravity has a very simple interface but it has one thing that I found that you’ll really Miss in other applications is it’s ability to go into a full screen mode leaving your display very clear. You will also find that the client updates very frequently and has nearly every available option that’s on any desktop client. It can also support multiple accounts so its quite versatile. Gravity is highly recommended by most users so you should see how easy to use it is.

Overview: I don’t use twitter at all so I’m probably the worst person to review gravity but I gave it a go. Using gravity seemed very quick and responsive and had a great feed direct from the supplier offering the latest beta versions and any bit of news available. Gravity as far as I can tell is a must have for any hardcore twitter user, the problem I note is that it costs $9.95 so check out the trail before you buy. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Summer Clock

Name: Summer Clock

Description: Screen saver, Power saver

Summary: Some Applications have great uses and make things easier and faster, some enable you phone to do amazing things, others are just there to make your phone do what you expect your phone to do. Summer Clock is an application that simply displays the time when your phone is on stand-by. As simple as it sounds it has a bit more to it than that, Summer Clock can display multiple clocks with different times zone and with options to change the colour, clock type and display time making this application quite useful for any body that needs different times on display.

Overview: I must say I was mislead when downloading Summer Clock as it was advertised as a free application so if anyone is against paying for applications just download cClock but the way they go about getting you to buy it is through the application itself, it takes on a wild trip of accepting terms and agreeing things. However this method of buying it from your phone looks good because you could buy it from your own credit. In the end of the day if this is useful to you then get it, if not the trial will not convince you. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Cute Keys

screenshot0084Name: Cute Keys(1.1)

Description: Shortcut Creator

Summary: All of us who have a Nokia N96 are always on a quest to make their Symbian Masterpiece faster and more reliable, most of use have realised that its going to take a good firmware update to increase performance. Lets however think of it this way, instead of increasing performance decrease usage by cutting out all the menus. Cute Keys is an application for the N96 that creates shortcut to application, contacts, sms, mms, documents, e-mail, websites and even blue-tooth. With the any application you can set a personal shortcut using keys from 0-9, *, #, the directional pad and even the camera button. When creating the shortcut you get to chose in what order you press each button, you can only use 1 a number once per shortcut but I’m sure people will get great use out of this.

Overview: With all the time this application saves you by cutting out the menus is quite a lot. The shear amount of shortcuts you can do is staggering almost limitless. The only place this application fails in is when you want to create shortcuts to things like “select all”, “copy”, “paste”and general symbols but that would probably be asking too much. If you have a good memory and not much time then this is your application if your the other way around then try with only a few shortcuts but it probably wont appeal to you as much. Cute Keys cost $9.99, but there is a trial that I recommended you check out to see what your missing. Read more
