Nokia N96 App Review – SensyScan

this-is-how-we-do0026

Name: SensyScan

Description: Security Camera

Summary: Some people take security very seriously SensyScan isn’t really like that unless you want to run the risk of someone stealing your Nokia N96, I would call it more of a spying device. SensyScan is an application that uses your nokias camera to detect movement and alert you of it by sending an sms to another phone and then taking a picture of who came in the room. SensyScan has a timer and a hot-spot location so it can focus on one area at a certain time. SensyScan has a really easy to use interface and with all different sensitivity settings that make the application work  well. I like this application, I don’t think I would ever leave my phone alone in a room if I thought someone was going to come in unless I was keeping a eye on a untrusted mate. Anyway I still like  because I like to see how software recognises movement and stuff like that.

Overview: I’m convinced this is a good application and it is so worth its £12 asking price but I would never use it for its proper purpose. I think this is quite a revolutionary application, I have seen motion capture applications before but I have never seen one with this amount of pixel use. There is a trial version so you call can check it out but will is only worth the cost if you are planning to use it properly. Read more

Description: Hands Free Call Manager

Summary: In most countries talking on your nokia N96 while driving is illegal unless you are talking using hands-free. With most hands-free kits you normally need some bluetooth headset but that’s just another annoyance, this is where Loudspeaker steps in. Loudspeaker will automatically answer your nokia N96 after a set amount of time and depending on what profile you are on. There are custom sounds that you can apply for both starting a call and ending a call. Loudspeaker is designed so that it will answer only while your driving with out the use of any extra hardware. If you combine Loudspeaker with best Profiles you will end up with a very usable application, but I’m a bit stunned that Loudspeaker doesn’t implement something like it anyway.

Overview: Loudspeaker is an application that can only make something easy a bit easier and charges $9.99  to do it. If this application could turn its self on and off when your in a car then it would be great but to make it possible you will need to buy two application, it’s silly. I find this application pretty useless but others mite find it more suited to them but I can’t see the point. I really tried to find something good about this application but I can’t find anything worth while at all. Read more

networkacc_connection_typeName: NetworkAcc

Description: Network Connections Accelerator

Summary: With the new OVI store controlling all the applications that we download for the nokia N96 with the stupid “download from device only” setup it seems clever to have a way of improving your download speedNetworkAcc is an application created by the same people who created Memory-Up to speed up download speedNetworkAcc is a very professional application giving you the power to improve the network speed of any connection from any carriers, and on some speed tests it did have a slight improvement but it was very variable. The thing that is a real worry is that there is no trial and it cost $9.99 so its a tough call whether to buy, maybe if you wait for a week or two they will come out with a trial.

Overview: I was only able to try this because my friend has it on his phone, so I hope you’ll forgive me for using another sites screenshots. However when I used it I could feel it being faster at loading pages but I don’t think I will ever buy this application, so waiting for a trial that’s hopefully coming. Otherwise I don’t have any complaints and it covers more connection types than I thought it could. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – GPS Utilities

Name: GPS Utilities

Description: GPS software

Summary: The GPS receiver is one of the many features that made me interested in the Nokia N96, but it isn’t used as much as it could be. Remember GPS is free data stream so with t he rght tools you can use your GPS to find where you are and where your gong and even how fast your going. GPS Utilities gives you the abilities to give you loads of information about where you are and where your going and it is able to apply that information on to a map so you’ll never be lost. GPS Utilities is one of the most popular GPS software and is very useful if you ever go travelling or just need to know where to go.

Overall: There are many applications that do the exactly the same but this is the most popular and form what I could tell it works the best too. GPS Utilities  really optimises the GPS receiver and it makes it much more stable which makes it more enjoyable to use. There are a few bad points which are the cost (£20) and the lack of features. The price is very high for an application but if you check out the trial you will see the quality that comes with it Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Nice light

Name: Nice Light

Description: Background light controller

Summary: The Nokia N96 has a few features that make it more desirable and these little things even thought they don’t improve the phone they do open up some opportunities. The features that I am talking about now are the stand and the dual led, they don’t get that much use but its nice to have them. Nice Light is an application that controls the flashlight and screen brightness, which is not a new idea so you can check out “Light control” if you don’t like this application. Nice Light is designed as a night light so what it does is turn up the brightness of you screen and turns on the dual led or you can just set it to do one of them. This is where the stand comes in letting you rest your phone at an angle so that makes a really good light for reading. This application has another little trick which is it can display the time in a full screen mode which can be set up with the stand to make an active night clock. With all this extra power required its advisable to use your charger, nice light has thought of that and created an option that will track when you plug in your charger so that it can provide a much more economical operation.

Overview: The only reason I like this application is because it can become a night clock when is charging which I think is a really handy idea and this phone is the perfect one to do it with because of the stand. However this application cost $9 but honestly I downloaded the trial and it didn’t seem to have any limitations at all or even a timer so I don’t really know whats up with that even thought they say it has a 7 day limitation. Anyway this application works smoothly and is recommended if you want a night clock. Read more
