Nokia N96 App Review – Incallert

Name: Incallert
Description: In Call Alert
Summary: If you ever find that you spent longer on call than you mite of liked or more than you can really afford then this mite be the application for you. Incallert is an application for your nokia n96 that will alert you after every minute with a subtle beep that will only be heard on your side of the phone. Incallert can auto start and can be easily set to any amount of time so you can get a friendly reminder when you have been on the phone for a few minutes. I think there is a few application that can do pretty much the same as this but I don’t think any other one is as easy to use.
Overview: There’s definitely a use for this application the a few things that annoys me about the application is that you can only do intervals of 1 minute so if you are trying to make a short call this can’t help you. Anyway Incallert is a free application so it should have a little place in your phone’s memory. Read more
Nokia N96 App Review – OBDScope

Name: OBDScope
Description: Diagnostic Software
Summary: I don’t expect many people would even believe there’s an application like this, manly because people wouldn’t even think about it. I’m sure many of you at one point have had your car diagnosed by one of these bluetooth diagnostic tools but that only happens at the garage. OBDScope is a application for your nokia n96 and It can be used with an ELM chip based Bluetooth OBD adapter to connect to your car (that is if your car has this piece of kit, normally found in more expensive cars like bmw’s ect…). OBDScope can be used to get real time info about your engines speed, economy, RPM, temperature and power, the real use of this application is to find out if there’s any problems inside your engine so you know when to take it to the garage.
Overview: This is very much a gear head application and of course if your car doesn’t have the adaptor its useless. Never the less this application a very clever idea and as it was created as a hobby its a free application so if you think your car has the adaptor then its really worth a try. Read more
Nokia N96 App Review – Lie Detector

Name: Lie Detector
Description: Lie Detector
Summary: I’m sure we all have seen these cheap lie detector toys that are just for a bit of fun, but it always sounds nice if you had a real one. Now there is a Lie Detector for your nokia n96 that will help you decided if someone is lying to you over the phone. Lie Detector in theory works but is far from perfect, Lie detector will analyse your conversation and then match your voice and remove it so it can tell if someones voice pitch changes. Leaving the only thing you have to do is remember when you asked the question. The application really only works on yes and no answer questions so it mite turn out like quite a funny call.
Overview: I tried this application but unless my girlfriend is a raisin it didn’t really work so I guess its just more of a gimmick application. I don’t think its really designed to a gimmick application but come on for a phone lie detector what exactly do you expect, also lie detector is a free application (I can’t confirm its a free application but I can’t find anywhere to buy it so it should be free) so you mite as well give it a go, it could be a good bit of fun. Nokia N96 App Review – SnappLife
August 3, 2009 by Patrick Campbell
Filed under Applications, Nokia, Review, S60, Software
Name: SnappLife
Description: Desktop and Menu
Summary: There have been a few attempt to create an application to replace the desktop and menus of the nokia n96 to a more stylish one, probably the most successful one of these is the IPhone menu. SnappLife is a new application to totally replace the standard desktop so it can add new features and widgets and more shortcuts that you can handle. SnappLife has most of the abilities of the default menu except for a few little things but really there’s everything you need. The nicest thing about the application is the menu box which is really elegant and very attractive and another thing is the widgets which are really graphic and very entertaining. The background wallpaper can be changed just like you can with the theme background.
Overview: As far as a these type of applications go SnappLife is a good one, its very interesting and easy to use. The main problem I have with SnappLife is that it is slow really slow, it doesn’t stall but its like going back to when there was no firmware on our n96 and that’s just so useless but its free so there’s no need to complain but I guess its only for the people who don’t really use there phone that much and want an easier to use desktop. Nokia N96 App Review – Switch Off
Name: Switch Off
Description: Power Manager
Summary: Turn on and off you nokia n96 is the job of the power button and always will be this isn’t a application to replace it. Switch Off can turn off you nokia n96 at any user define time and can be enabled very easily, quite simple really. I don’t think there’s any really purpose for having this application only what the user can think of. I came up with two reasons one is for security so that your phone turns off everyday so that if someone who has your phone doesn’t have the pin code they are going to have a problem. The second reason is for the better health of your nokia n96 by turning your phone off regularly it should work better and faster. All this requires can be yours if you can be bothered to turn on you phone every now and again.
Overview: Having the ability to do this is almost something you expect, if you can do it on a PC why not on a phone right. Switch Off is a free application that maybe useful at some time and it probably better to have and not need it than to need it and not have it. So overall this application isn’t that important but it mite be handy for some but completely useless for others, all the application isn’t signed so if your phones not hacked you will have to sign it. Nokia N96 App Review – My Travelr
Name: My Travelr
Description: Travel Utility
Summary: Traveling has become a part of life and most people travel to different countries on quite a regularly and when we travel we want to know as much as you can about your destination. My Travelr can give you most of the information that anyone would want about the destination they are going. My Travelr can retrieve information like the time, weather, a map of the surroundings, international calling codes and the currency conversion rate. There are a good few applications that can do this but very few has the the ability to find the weather in 40,000 city’s so it has a bit going for it but I know there are more applications that can give more information.
Overview: My Travelr has a few advantages over some travel application but there are a good few application that can display much more information. The good thing about this application is that its free and if you compare it to any other free travel application it comes in the top three, well that’s in my opinion. It’s a very handy app if you are planning to go on hoilday to another country or something like that. Read more
Nokia N96 App Review – Calc Sheet

Name: Calc Sheet
Description: Spreadsheet
Summary: We all deal with money and any senseable person will tell you that its important to manage your money, one of the best way to do this is by creating spreadsheet with all your income and expenditure. You can already buy an application called Quick Office which is really Microsoft Office for your phone but is only available at a high price. Calc Sheet is almost the same as Quick Offices excel, it can do all the same things like put in formulas and different colours and font types. One thing I found great was the way you select boxes to add, subtract ect.. Although in the end of the day Quick office is a much better more perfected Excel but this is definately worth its cost.
Overview: When I say its worth its cost thats a bit of a lie it is probably worth about 10 times it’s cost because its free so everyone can enjoy. I also should say that I really like these types of apps because they are so clever and I think anyone who has never used excel should try this to see whats possible. Calc Sheet is a .jar application but works very nicely on the nokia n96. Read more
Nokia N96 App Review – PhoNetInfo
July 21, 2009 by Patrick Campbell
Filed under Nokia, Review, Software, Symbian

Name: PhoNetInfo
Description: Phone Information
Summary: This application is really quite useless as it only has one real use but I think is pretty good, what PhoNetInfo can do is find out information about your nokia N96. There are applications that can find out information like your ram usage and open applications but PhoNetInfo can find out a whole lot more. PhoNetInfo can tell you nearly everything form the current profile to the image format of the secondary camera there’s more information than you could ever need. The thing I really don’t like is that the information that it provides can’t really be adjusted or selected but it can be copied to a clip board, I can understand alot of information can’t and be able to be adjusted but some of the information you really want to change like your profile to see what effect it has.
Overview: I like seeing all this information but I wish you could be more involved with the application but it still is only useful for people who actually need this information. PhoNetInfo is free and is pretty interesting but is in no way important but I guess you never know if you will ever need it or not anyway for anyone want to know more about your phone you will never find an application that does it better. Nokia N96 App Review – FolderPlay
Name: FolderPlay
Description: Music Player
Summary: There’s no good reason not to use the pre-installed music player on the nokia n96 if you try really hard you could complain about a few things but more or less it’s the best one out there. FolderPlay isn’t really a replacement for the pre-installed music player but it is a different concept. FolderPlay can support all the major audio formats and has all the functions of any music player. FolderPlay doesn’t seem that different until you come to choosing and playing any song, to choose a song you have to find it on your phone and to play it you just select it but this is it’s key instead of opening a now playing page it just plays the song instantly. It’s actual quite strange how fast it can starts playing songs and the overall speed of the application is mad.
Overview: This is a pretty good application I feel its meant to be used as well as the pre-installed music player for one reason and that is the sound quality which is fine if you are just quickly going though your music but its lacks loads of quality when it comes down to playing loads of songs. FolderPlay is a free application and can make some tasks easier but it’s not the next best music player. Read more
Nokia N96 App Review – Midomi
July 12, 2009 by Patrick Campbell
Filed under Nokia, Review, S60, Symbian
Name: Midomi
Description: Song Search
Summary: The nokia N96 device is still known as one of the best media phones out and with the new firmware improving the sound quality I thought it would be a good idea to post something in this area. Midomi is a bit out there but it’s something a little special let me explain, what Midomi does is listen to your singing or humming and then finds out the name of the song. This type of software isn’t new I remember grace-note on a Sony ericsson doing the same. However this is the first one I found for symbian. Unlike grace-note Midomi will also download the song for you from its massive database. In theroy it one of the greatest applications ever but when it came down to singing I guess my voice isn’t good enough neither is my set of speakers so I don’t how I can get this application to work right. I still think that some people will have great use for it, I just didn’t.
Overview: If this application does exactly what it says it can do it will be so popular and I really hope it does. One thing that should interest people and that is that the application is free and you can sign up for Midomi for free with limited abilities but that’s fine. Real this could be a lot of peoples favorite application wont be mine until I learn how to sing. Read more
