Nokia N96 App Review – BeepTimer

Summary: I feels like its getting to the point where I can no longer find interesting applications so I’m left with the less interesting ones to review but none the less they all deserve there place in the spot light. BeepTimer is an application that lets off a beep every hour, 1/2 hour, 1/4 hour ect… and can be set to turn on and to turn off at the time you decide. As the application can only do one thing you know its not going to be that popular but some mite like it. I think the only people that mite like this application are the people that need to keep a rough idea of the time over a few hours or someone who has to continually check on something.

Overview: I’m not really sure why someone bothered to make this application yes it works fine but just doesn’t have any obvious purpose. BeepTimer is a free application so If you think your need it then its yours, if this isn’t quite the application that you want then but you think this mite do then my advice is to keep looking because there are many timer applications that do a whole lot more Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – PowerBoot

Name: PowerBoot

Description: Boot Utility

Summary: There are loads of applications for the nokia N96 and I’m sure everyone has the favorite but one of the main problems I find with some of the applications is that they don’t incorporate an auto-start function. PowerBoot is an application that allows you to chose what applications start up with the phone. Although there are a few applications already available that can do the exact same but I thing this one is probably the easiest to use. One thing that PowerBoot had that I haven’t noticed in other applications like this is it can identify your java applications as well as the .sis ones.

Overview: In fairness PowerBoot isn’t a very interesting application but it definitely serves a purpose but doesn’t really do anything surprising. PowerBoot is a free application and works without any problems but be sure to activate it before you close it. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – mp3tools

Name: mp3tools

Description: Mp3 Editor

Summary: Remember back in the old days before camera’s on phones and the two best features of a phone where its games and its ringtones (imagine having a nokia N96 then). Back then this application would have probably been the most used application, but now-a-days this application doesn’t look that special however looks can be deceiving. mp3tools is an application that can cut any mp3 in to a ringtone size and it will save the file in the same directory as the mp3, but then it can also join the any mp3 so you can make all kinds of different tones and give you the chance to make the perfect ringtone. mp3tools also has lots of little feature like bookmarks and tag editor as well as a bunch of settings.

Overview: I think this is a Chinese application that was translated to English, so there could be some complications. mp3tools doesn’t actually work that well like the mp3 player doesn’t seem to work and it asks to be allowed to anything which is so annoying. mp3tools is a free application so I think that makes it the first free ringtone editor and the software is pretty good and there is settings for different phones so maybe messing around with them will get the mp3 player working. Nokia N96 App Review – Yahoo

Description: Online Search Engine

Summary: I’m more of a google/hotmail guy so because in my opinion yahoo a bit lame and comes up with irrelevant results and is never as interesting as the google counter parts. However google have released a few applications for the nokia N96 and one or two of them are pretty good but finally Yahoo have released an application for the nokia n96. Yahoo’s oneSearch application is quite a nice little application that creates a shortcut to the yahoo search engine on your desktop or phone top. The applications also has a voice function so you no longer need to type in what you want to search.

Overview: This application is better than the google app but I wouldn’t use it instead because this yahoo app uses to many buttons. Another reason why I wouldn’t use this as an application because it likes to close its and unless you want it as one of your shortcut buttons its annoying to open. Yahoo oneSearch is a free application but it was such a pain to find the download link so I hope you all appreciate. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – YourTube

Description: Youtube Video Download

Summary:If you ever wanted more videos on your nokia N96 the this is the application for you. This is the type of application that I love, it has plenty of uses and anything you download is just added to your video library. Yourtube has a great search engine which provides all the information you mite need to decide which version of the video you want. YourTube also has a great download manager which lets you choose the format and quality of the downloaded video. The application has all the other features you could need like a download queue and background downloading. The application itself is in jar format so again it works with loads of different phones.

Overview: YourTube is a great little application I must say that i had a few connection problems but eventually it was working like a dream. This application has been out for a while in a beta form but now that its the full thing so you shouldn’t have any problems with it. Yourtube is a free application so its should be considered as a must have application. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Freesigner

Summary: One of the biggest problems that face beginners to the symbian OS is signing an application. The more experienced Nokia N96 owners would just hack their phone so they will never need to sign applications but if your interested in doing that then please just ask for some help at the forum(new topic will be answered quickly). Freesigner is an application that will help any beginner sign their applications, the only thing you could possibly have trouble with is finding the application that you want to install or finding the cert and key files but you can always use the self-sign setting to use the default cert and key. Freesigner is so easy to use and all the settings are very easy to understand, Freesigner really makes it so easy to sign applications.

Overview: If you have any problems with singing applications then this could really help you, to get the best out of signing applications you should try and get your own cert and key because they should work on every application, where as other certs and key will only work on some application. Freesigner is a free application so you have no reason not to download and use it. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Incallert

Summary: If you ever find that you spent  longer on call than you mite of liked or more than you can really afford then this mite be the application for you. Incallert is an application for your nokia n96 that will alert you after every minute with a subtle beep that will only be heard on your side of the phone. Incallert can auto start and can be easily set to any amount of time so you can get a friendly reminder when you have been on the phone for a few minutes. I think there is a few application that can do pretty much the same as this but I don’t think any other one is as easy to use.

Overview: There’s definitely a use for this application the a few things that annoys me about the application is that you can only do intervals of 1 minute so if you are trying to make a short call this can’t help you. Anyway Incallert is a free application so it should have a little place in your phone’s memory. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – OBDScope

Description: Diagnostic Software

Summary: I don’t expect many people would even believe there’s an application like this, manly because people wouldn’t even think about it. I’m sure many of you at one point have had your car diagnosed by one of these bluetooth diagnostic tools but that only happens at the garage. OBDScope is a application for your nokia n96 and It can be used with an ELM chip based Bluetooth OBD adapter to connect to your car (that is if your car has this piece of kit, normally found in more expensive cars like bmw’s ect…). OBDScope can be used to get real time info about your engines speed, economy, RPM, temperature and power, the real use of this application is to find out if there’s any problems inside your engine so you know when to take it to the garage.

Overview: This is very much a gear head application and of course if your car doesn’t have the adaptor its useless. Never the less this application a very clever idea and as it was created as a hobby its a free application so if you think your car has the adaptor then its really worth a try. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Lie Detector

Summary: I’m sure we all have seen these cheap lie detector toys that are just for a bit of fun, but it always sounds nice if you had a real one. Now there is a Lie Detector for your nokia n96 that will help you decided if someone is lying to you over the phone. Lie Detector in theory works but is far from perfect, Lie detector will analyse your conversation and then match your voice and remove it so it can tell if someones voice pitch changes. Leaving the only thing you have to do is remember when you asked the question. The application really only works on yes and no answer questions so it mite turn out like quite a funny call.

Overview: I tried this application but unless my girlfriend is a raisin it didn’t really work so I guess its just more of a gimmick application. I don’t think its really designed to a gimmick application but come on for a phone lie detector what exactly do you expect, also lie detector is a free application (I can’t confirm its a free application but I can’t find anywhere to buy it so it should be free) so you mite as well give it a go, it could be a good bit of fun. Nokia N96 App Review – N Lighter

Name: N Lighter

Summary: I hope that lots of people take interest in this animation because it could be the start of something new. If you remember when some themes came out for the nokia n96 that used a clock animation on the screen saver it was good but this was actually the first information based screen saver for the nokia n96. N Lighter is an application that displays a flame which seems to react to movements around it but that could just be my imagination because nobody has said anything about it. The application is just a total gimmick but this gimmick comes in a .swf which is the same file type as the clock screen saver so potentially you have a really cool screen saver.

Overview: Now in all fairness it has the potential to be a really cool screen saver but it only worked right once because your have to press something to start it and when you do that the phone goes back to its normal display. I’m hoping someone creates on that starts straight away but we’ll have to see if anyone actually does. N Lighter is designed for the S60v5 but it works all the same, N Lighter is also free so you all can check it out and remember that it is a beta so it could be getting better. Read more
