Name: Resco Photo Viewer

Description: Photo Viewer

Summary: We all use the gallery in our nokia N96 to view and edit photos with a lot of ease and there’s not really any thing that needs to improve. The only problem that anyone can complan about is the speed or lack of which brings me to Resco Photo Viewer. Resco Photo Viewer is great for viewing your photos because it uses thumbnails so it can show you many more pictures and can load them all faster, you can also customize your view to the most suited view. With the pre-installed gallery you can send your pic to the web or through blue-tooth which is also available in Resco Photo Viewer so really its exactly the same but faster.

Overview: Because Resco Photo Viewer has to use thumbnails it uses more space on your memory card but it isn’t that large but is just another thing to watch out for. Resco Photo Viewer cost $14.95 but does have a 14 trial which lets you have a good go of the software but unless you use your gallery more than often then you need Resco Photo Viewer to do it in a sort of reasonable time. Nokia N96 App Review – Privus

screenshot0298Name: Privus Mobile

Description: Caller Id

Summary: Most people are happy with the the caller Id already on your nokia n96 but the truth is that you don’t have a caller Id, all you have is a contact recognition which will never show information the name of who’s calling. Privus is an application that can find out the name of the person that’s calling you, Privus has been around for a little while but has only recently been made for symbian. On other operating system it will tell you who’s calling but on the nokia N96 it will get you the name when you connect a to wifi. The application works well but requires a restart to completely install the application but can auto start from then on. To use this service you have to subscribe to Privus and pay for a month of use.

Overview: Privus is really only for business men that need to know who’s calling them but If you do want Privus it is going to cost you $5.99 a month or $59.95 for a year but does have a 10 day trial. Really I don’t think Privus is worth the cost but if you need to know then you don’t have much of a choice. You have to register at Privus for the application to work but that’s very quick. Nokia N96 App Review – VoxTrack

screenshot0272

Name: VoxTrack

Description: Conversion Recorder

Summary: I’m not going to pretend that there isn’t many call recorders out for the nokia N96, when in fact there’s almost a new one every-week. VoxTrack isn’t actual new it was formally called “XELNEX LITE” but from what I know xelnex a few problems and the quality wasn’t that great. Now with VoxTrack all is well again the quality and the application are both just fine. With that said you are left with the choice of what voice recorder to buy all really do the same thing the only difference between them is the quality of the recording. VoxTrack it has to be said has one of the best quality recording and VoxTrack has loads of settings that enable it to work just the way you want, settings like deleting the recordings after a pre-defined time and automatic recording. It does seem to stand out from the crowed but most of them work just as good.

Overview: Some people want to have a decent call recorder and VoxTrack is pretty decent but two things worry me that are first, its cost which is £12.88 and second, is that I think this slows down the phone noticeably when in it’s recording a call. Depending on how often you use your phone while on a call should help you chose if this is right for you but there is a trial so you can check out how it works for yourself. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Daddy’s Eye

screenshot0264

Name: Daddy’s Eye

Description: Call Monitor

Summary: Many applications for your nokia N96 will only be useful to certain people and others will be useful to everyone. Daddy’s Eye is only really for certain people but still that gtoug of certain people is quite large. Daddy’s Eye records any incoming or outgoing calls or Sms and can then send them to your email or to a http server. There are many application that can do this but what Daddy’s Eye is designed to do is recored all this info without the user knowing and the application can completely hide itself and also has a password to protect the settings. So really Daddy’s Eye is for keeping an eye on someones call activity but with the cost of it they would want to be someone important to you.

Overview: I can definitely see the point of this application and I think most people at sometime or another in their lives will want this application. The thing I don’t get is the cost which is $35 but there is a trial so you can check out how is works. I really shouldn’t say this but it was easier to find a cracked version of Daddy’s Eye than any official download-able one so maybe the creators will notice this and do something that. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – FolderPlay

screenshot0258Name: FolderPlay

Description: Music Player

Summary: There’s no good reason not to use the pre-installed music player on the nokia n96 if you try really hard you could complain about a few things but more or less it’s the best one out there. FolderPlay isn’t really a replacement for the pre-installed music player but it is a different concept. FolderPlay can support all the major audio formats and has all the functions of any music player. FolderPlay doesn’t seem that different until you come to choosing and playing any song, to choose a song you have to find it on your phone and to play it you just select it but this is it’s key instead of opening a now playing page it just plays the song instantly. It’s actual quite strange how fast it can starts playing songs and the overall speed of the application is mad.

Overview: This is a pretty good application I feel its meant to be used as well as the pre-installed music player for one reason and that is the sound quality which is fine if you are just quickly going though your music but its lacks loads of quality when it comes down to playing loads of songs. FolderPlay is a free application and can make some tasks easier but it’s not the next best music player. Read more

Nokia N96 Game Review – Captain Fatal 3D

screenshot0269Name: Captain Fatal

Genre: Action/Shooter

Summary: With N-gage gaming being thought of the best mobile gaming available it seems unlikely that you will find a good game that’s not for the N-gage on your nokia N96. Captain Fatal 3D is a new game that’s just like the old doom style game, picking up weapons and items while killing enemies as you navigate thought the maze of the map. The graphics are quite good the detail of the weapons is top notch but the levels and enemies have very little detail. Another problem I had was that the processor in the nokia n96 was just unable to keep up with the frame rate of the game. This isn’t the first game like this for nokia n96 and I just don’t believe these games will work right until phones have more power. I like the look of this game but would probably need to be played on a faster phone.

Overview: It’s a shame I have to say this but if you are planning to use this game on the N96 then don’t get it because it just won’t work fast enough. However anyone with a N95 will probably really like this game and the developers put in so much effort that I’m sure any player will be amazed at some of the graphics, if your not convinced then I’m providing a link to a video of the game in action. The game is also a .jar so it will work on loads of phones. Read more

Nokia N96 App Review – Midomi

Filed under Nokia, Review, S60, Symbian

screenshot0260Name: Midomi

Description: Song Search

Summary: The nokia N96 device is still known as one of the best media phones out and with the new firmware improving the sound quality I thought it would be a good idea to post something in this area. Midomi is a bit out there but it’s something a little special let me explain, what Midomi does is listen to your singing or humming and then finds out the name of the song. This type of software isn’t new I remember grace-note on a Sony ericsson doing the same. However this is the first one I found for symbian. Unlike grace-note Midomi will also download the song for you from its massive database. In theroy it one of the greatest applications ever but when it came down to singing I guess my voice isn’t good enough neither is my set of speakers so I don’t how I can get this application to work right. I still think that some people will have great use for it, I just didn’t.

Overview: If this application does exactly what it says it can do it will be so popular and I really hope it does. One thing that should interest people and that is that the application is free and you can sign up for Midomi for free with limited abilities but that’s fine. Real this could be a lot of peoples favorite application wont be mine until I learn how to sing. Read more

Nokia N96 Game Review – Rotoku

July 10, 2009 by
Filed under Games, Nokia, Review, S60

screenshot0251Name: Rotoku

Genre: puzzle

Summary: As you can probably tell this is a variant of the very popular sudoku puzzle game, but the only way they are related is the end goal of sorting out the numbers in the right order. When sudoku came out I liked it but I’m kind of bored of it, Rotoku takes a new approach to playing the game think of it as sudoku come Rubiks Cube. The first thing that’s different that sudoku is that it gives you all numbers at the start, from there you have to rotate a block of 4 numbers until the puzzle is complete. If your getting bored of sudoku then you can change things like the size and characters that are used. I also want to talk about how clever this game is because what the game will do is colour code the numbers so you know if they in the right place or even in the right box.

Overview: If I’m talking strictly about the game(not the puzzle) then I have to admit that its pretty good with all the available options and settings, as far as the puzzle goes I’m not too sure if it will catch on because some puzzles are fine but others can really long and seem to have no end which could be taken as a good thing but I think its just too much. Rotoku isn’t free but it only costs £3.00 so if your a big sudoku fan then this game will be a winner straight away but for anyone unsure then you can check out the trial which will let you play unlimited number of games but only for 2 mins. Nokia N96 App Review – Mr Expense

screenshot0243

Name: Mr Expense

Description: Expense Tracker

Summary: At the moment with this recession going on it seems wise to try and stretch out your budget by optimising your expenditure. There is loads of software to do this on your PC but how often do you buy little things that you mite forget. This is where Mr Expense comes in, Mr Expense is any application designed to help you keep track of your money. It dose this by creating a log that you have to update when your buy anything and keeps an note of when, how, the cost and what you purchased and when you have filled in your purchases Mr Expense will work out the total and then give you a report on what you spent your money on. Mr Expense is basically a database for your nokia n96 and with all the customizable settings its a pretty good one at that.

Overview: I understand that some people deal with larger amounts of money on a daily basis but I can’t understand how someone would forget what they spent any size able money they spent during the week. So when I first started it I thought it was going to be useless and rubbish but I was mistaken because this application is so good it’s necessary. Unfortunately necessity comes at a price of $9.99 which is fair enough but if you are really hit by the recession then I doubt that you will spend your money on this but there is a 7 day trial below so check that out.
